LGA 2011 vs LGA 2011-v3 mounting holes the same?

post #1 of 4
Thread Starter
I've just bought an Asus P9X79 motherboard, it's arriving on Friday, and I'd like to use my old Noctua NH-D15.

I originally used the cooler on a 2011-V3 socket, and I still have the mounting kit that I had to get especially for the job.

Does anybody know if the orientation of the LGA 2011 is the same as the 2011-v3 (in other words will the mounts I've got fit my x79 motherboard) - only I didn't keep any of the other mounting gear.

...and if you're wondering why I'm going from X99 to X79, don't ask biggrin.gif let's just say financial surprises can be a *****.

Thanks in advance.

Your mount should work fine.

Technically, the 2001-3 stands a little taller, but cooler companies sold same mounts for both. End result is there is a little more pressure when mounted on 2011-3 than on 2011-0

Here is techical data:
LGA2011-0 CPU package + ILM has a height of 8.014mm (plus/minus 0.34mm).
LGA2011-3 CPU package + ILM has a height of 8.481mm (plus/minus 0.279mm).
If we compare the maximum heights of both platforms that's potential difference of ~0.4mm. Comparing the average height, the difference is 0.467mm, or ~0.5mm.

Height:
LGA2011-0 8.014mm +/-0.34mm
LGA2011-3 8.481mm +/-0.270mm
difference = 0.467mm

Glad to help. FYI the difference is 0.018 inches .. 1-2 thickness of paper.
