ASUS R9 390x And EVGA Supernova PSU owners..please read

How are you guys connecting the 8pin and 6pin GPU cables? This question is mainly in regards to the 8pin on the GPU.

I can see that the 8pin connects to the PSU just fine, but the 6+2 won't work on the 8pin GPU port because of the way the pin orientation is.

Am I forced to having to use an adapter to get the GPU to work properly? frown.gif

Why EVGA do you supply all these extra VGA cables, but they just don't work with the GPU's I end up buying...

Thanks! smile.gif

Try the 6+2 PIN first before the 6 PIN. See if you can plug the power cable first before installing to the motherboard. I saw a pic and it is indeed tight. It has a backplate so it should be safe. Put the plastic cover on the PCI connector to protect it and, of course, remove it once the plugs are in place. hope that helps.

Avoid the fans and guide the cables making sure not to put pressure on the sockets.

I think you misread my post. tongue.gif I'm talking about my GPU and how the 6+2 cable that's provided by my EVGA PSU isn't compatible with the 6+2 port on the GPU, the 6 pin port next to the 8pin is fine though, as I can just leave the +2 additional cable just dangling.

Maybe you are not using it right? I have a bunch of SuperNovas and never ran into that problem.

The 6+2 pin's detachable pins might be on the wrong side, in that case just move it to the right side?

My bad. Here i took a pic of mine with the power not plugged all the way . . .

I'm using the daisy-chained cable that came with the psu.

Not sure if this is the help i'm looking for, lol. Your cables aren't pressed in fully? That doesnt seem safe.

I'm curious why my psu would provide these 6+2 vga cables, when they're not compatible with the 8pin gpu. I dont want to have to use an adapter.... frown.gif

I purposely did that to show you. If you look at it the first pin on the extra 2 pin is curved at the top. So, make sure yours is oriented the same way. It should fit. Or am i still not getting your point? a pic will help if possible.

Hopefully I'm just overlooking something, but when I look at my 6+2 vga cable for the 8pin slot, the orientation isnt the same. The 8pin goes fine into the psu, I need that same orientation for the gpu.

It's late, so ill send some picks tomorrow. smile.gif

I saw another pic of your gpu and the plugs do go in inverted where the locking mechanism are exposed (clip). get some rest. lol
