Asrock X99 ITX/ac + Samsung 850 SSD - motherboard changes to Sata 2

Hey,

Last time I had problems with my motherboard it was dead. Got a new one directly from Asrock and it has been working like a charm.

But I have one problem. I plugged in my three Samsun 850 SSD's.

2x 850 EVO 500Gb running in RAID 0 in Microsoft storage.
1x 850 PRO 1Tb

And then a m.2 Sm951 128Gb as Boot drive.

Firstly. I just plugged the drives in, in to the Sata ports. My motherboard have 6x SATA 3 ports - so no SATA 2!

This started a few months back but I didn't care much about it.

But my motherboard, or Samsung Magician believes the 850 PRO disk is plugged in to SATA 2.

If I disconnent/disable the SSD in Device manager, restart the computer and then enable it, then it changes back to what it should be - SATA 3.

But somehow, after a while, maybe days, or weeks, it changes back by itself to SATA 2. I have tried, and it does not change immediately after a few restarts.

This is what it says about one of the 850 EVO running in RAID 0

And now I see the 850 pro completely went crazy, here is the history of testing it in Samsung Magician

While at the same time, my 850 EVO's made a huge performance boost compared to earlier results

This is BTW what it says about my M.2 NVMe Sm951 ACHI SSD, notice, I have a i7 5820K, not a Xeon tongue.gif

So people, what the hell shall I do? As you can see, something isn't completely right here frown.gif While it disturbs me so much is because the slow 850 PRO is loading like a floppy drive when I try to open a folder with 20 pictures...

Hope you can help me out here biggrin.gifthumb.gif

Thanks!

I had this same issues on my asrock x99 extreme 6, using samsung 850 pro 512gb drives. No matter what i did, it would always show as sata 2. I swapped sata cables no change. What i did find that fixed it was I used a completely different brand sata cable and now it works at sata 3 with no issues. I have no Idea why that should make a difference but it did. If I switch back to the other brand, (some no name from microcenter) , it defaults back to sata 2. So maybe try changing the brand of sata cables. I can use problem brand sata cable on any other hard drive or SSD and they all show connected at sata 3. Not sure if its an samsung 850 issue, sata issue or motherboard issue, but that was the only way i fixed it.
