Sony will not show the updated PlayStation 4 Neo console until there is enough content available to illustrate the benefits of the machine, PlayStation boss Andrew House has
stated.

Speaking at the E3 video games conference in Los Angeles, the president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment also expressed surprise that Microsoft had announced its Project Scorpio hardware over a year before launch.

“The point of confirming the existence of PlayStation 4 Neo and the bare bones of the plan last week was about not disappointing the fan base who would obviously come to E3 with high expectations of all kinds of announcements,” he said. “And from past experience, the worst thing you can do is disappoint and pull the rug away from people. That’s why we went out last week and said, yes, it does exist but don’t expect to see it at E3. I think it was the right thing to do.”

Motivations for the PlayStation Neo
Quote:
House said that one of the key motivations for PlayStation 4 Neo was specifically to prevent high-end users from abandoning the product at an earlier point than its natural eight-year lifespan. “We’ve traditionally seen that some of the core audience tends to gravitate back to high-end PCs at some point because these are the people who want the finest graphical performance,” he said. “So here’s a great opportunity to have them stay within our ecosystem.

Creating a more powerful PlayStation 4 with the intention of providing better VR experiences and higher graphical fidelity in non VR games can be a strong selling point for the product, this could also serve as a deterrent for console gamers from getting high-end PCs for Gaming and VR, providing they can offer a capable and affordable option.

However, they're missing that one of the main attractions of PC Gaming is the openness of it, and that chasing the high-end PC experience is futile unless they want to put out consoles every 3 or 4 years.

It will be interesting to see how Sony and Microsoft shake up the gaming industry with the PlayStation 4 Neo and Project Scorpio.

For me graphics are important, but much more important, and that is why I love PC gaming, are :

- Being able to play most games with Mouse & Keyboard. I hate playing FPS or TPS with controller. Aiming with a controller sucks.
- Being able to customize certain things : Field of View, Depth of Field, Motion Blur, Chromatic Aberration, Vignette and many more.
- I can adjust settings to either get more fps or have better visuals.
- FreeSync/G-Sync. I don't have it yet, but I don't know if consoles would support FreeSync with the new Polaris based architecture. I hope they do.
- PC gaming has so many games and you keep them for life.

A PS4K or XboxScorpio would only need the following to make me consider switching completely :

- Native M&KB support
- 30fps or 60fps option
- Post-Process graphics option for FoV,Dof,MB,CA to turn on/off. FoV is not even that important. It's more important for PC games where you sit close.

Sony could release one of those mouse and keyboard combos that you put on your lap. That'd be sweet

You don't belong to consoles gaming, that's all. Consoles should keep their simple concepts, plug and play, just turn on and grasp the controller on a comfort couch

lol who are you?

Some console games do already offer those options. The Last of Us Remastered. Uncharted Collection. The Division.

I have played on consoles all my life. You are not to tell me where I belong.

You can still "grasp" a controller and game on the couch.

What is this? What does this comment achieve? Imagine if you put that much effort into discouraging people from buying broke pc games.

Really, please show me something that matches Uncharted 4 or even the fluidity of WipeOut HD on the ps3 on the PC. Like it not, there is far more innovation happening on the consoles than on the pc.

Thats why we only get 1:1 ports and "hd" make overs 99% of the time. PC gamers spend so much time circle jerking over consoles ports, while at the same time putting consoles down.

After all, how many exclusives were announced for the PC at E3?

Sony was not expecting MS to show the Scorpio, nevermind showing a faster system. Sony will need to tweak the Neo before launch. Being able to play native 4K is astounding. The last thing they need is to start a brand new system behind the eightball. That is not to say MS has no pressure on them. They will need to prove their claims.

Scorpio honestly seems like MS didn't take VR and 4k seriously. PSVR will be $400.00, 500 for the bundle with the camera and motion controllers, and will release with an already pretty impressive array of games. Scorpio I see being $600.00 at launch, we can probably couple that with having to also purchase the Rift at $700.00, that price is assuming itv will have its motion controls released by then, and your up to at least 1300.00 dollars for an MS entry point to VR. By holiday 2017 you'll probably be able to build a rig and get a headset for almost that price. More importantly if your buying the Scorpio your probably already somewhat of an enthusiast so it doesn't make sense not to just spend 100 - 200 dollars extra and get a rig that will blow Scorpio out of the water.
If your just in the market for a VR experience and don't care so much about fidelity, then PS4 and it's helmet still has this beast at such a low price, and this is all before we know anything about NEO. So IMO it honestly looks like MS has an enormous uphill battle it's created for itself in that users have a path to completely ignore Scorpio for either cheaper or much better options.

Ultimately in the distant future they would rival each other, when they don't need any more performance upgrades to achieve game play at 4K? 8K? Also a keyboard and mouse is great for couch internets and games rolleyes.gif
