On Board Creative Sound core 3d Chip vs. something else?

Thread Starter
I have a z97 Mobo that has an improved onboard audio experience (compared to older Mobo's). The board has the Creative Sound core 3d chip with compatable software, pro studio, allowing me to adjust EQ, scout mode, etc. Before purchasing the board a while ago I got in contact with someone from Gigabyte, the tech said it's a decent chip that can produce a good amount of clarity. I wouldn't know otherwise because I haven't heard sound from an external dac/amp or sound card.

I have Phillips Fidelio X1 and it sounds good plugged into the back of my PC; however I was wondering if there were sound cards out there under $200 that can give a noticeable upgrade over what I have now?

I do not edit audio, I primarily game, watch movies, listen to music. Just looking for a richer experience with a budget of under $200, if possible.

Thanks

I'd honestly say that the best way to get a better experience in your case is to pick up a nice headset or speaker set. Most on board audios are rather solid unless they are unshielded and you have alot of interference or your particular headset needs more power then the on board DAC can provide.

Nope, not any more since sound hardware acceleration is pretty much dead. That dedicated PCB section with the Core3D ship is the soundcard version of the Z series I believe; beats the Realtek stuff for sure.
