Phil Spencer is an idiot.

Microsoft is using the lack of knowledge of the average gamer to its advantage in their marketing parlance. "6 teraflops of GPU power" sounds like a lot on paper but it honestly doesn't mean anything...

Consider that an Intel Celeron G1830 and an R9 295X2 produces 11.5 TFLOPS for under a grand (Jan 2015) and still isn't very capable for 4K gaming. Do they honestly expect their box to output 3840x2160 at 60 frames per second? Not likely. But it's over a year away and with plenty of tech development until then, I guess we'll see.

It's still GCN. 6TFLOPS and 320GB/s tells you it will be about 390X level. Lower memory speed can be attributed to memory compression. Perhaps a bit better if Polaris actually does shake the tree, but not by much. Between 390X and Fury at best.

Tada, I un-magic'd the "misleading" number. You can be skeptical all you want, but it won't be unbalanced, so they'll have a CPU to match. Since they're still going to want to be 200w and under, it'll be a 35-50w CPU. Being late 2017, that means Zen APU, most likely a quad (single cluster) with HT.

Really, they gave you the only number they needed to. Quote me on it.

PC is different, this is consoles, what about people who can't buy and replace the old one?

This is the worst console generation.

As of this year all future Microsoft published Xbox games are PC games, Microsoft considers Windows 10 and Xbox to be the same platform.
Your Xbox is now officially a PC that runs a dedicated gaming OS, all the same principles apply to both.
Meaning that you're going to see Xbox games scale across many pieces of hardware.

Now what would be really interesting is if they would give us a bootable Xbox ISO. I've got an AMD APU sitting here that's very similar to the Xbox One SOC, it probably wouldn't take much fiddling (for a programming team) to make it work.

I think this 4K talk for Project Scorpio is ridiculous.

It's pretty much back to square one.

The Xbox One can barley do 1080P 60fps with its current hardware. Now they are trying to compensate with Project Scorpio at 4K , which will most likely also be too tough of a task at 30fps with cut down graphics.

Instead Microsoft should really push hard for 1080p 60fps with amazing graphics using Project Scorpio.

Also , as PC gamers with good hardware , we don't have an incentive to keep our Xbox Ones or future Iterations since most exclusives are being released on PC. We come out winning.

End of rant.

But yeah there's still the whole 'nobody knows what cores they use', and 'performance figures might apply to gpu only'

obsolete is not the same as "isn't as good as 800$ high end GPUs" smile.gif
