I hate to jump on the bandwagon here, but DVI is a very old standard now. Both monitors that I have have a DisplayPort connection, and really, any decent monitor today will have a DisplayPort connection.

Sadly that doesn't work for 1440p 100hz screens since it needs an active displayport->dual link dvi, and those are over a $100

DVI is still limited to low resolutions and refresh rates. Any new monitor should have the latest DP and if it's multimedia oriented then also have HDMI.

Beyond some glitches like this I don't really see the use for DVI anymore. DP is so much easier to use and offers higher specs.

There is some issues yes but its very minimal. Driver/Windows update should fix it hopefully eventually. i havent had a single issue with my lg on dp with freesync even with the monitor going to standby ive had no issues been fine for a couple months.

It puts a burden on the end user for no good reason. What does the card lose from having a DVI output, and what does it gain from having three displayports? Nobody is going to be doing a multi monitor setup on a $200 budget card.

Most RX 480s should come with 1x DVI-I, 1x HDMI, and 1X DisplayPort. There. Everyone's happy.

I bet more people use multi monitor then cheap khorean monitors or ancient monitors that only have dvi. Hence why the extra dp ports are needed. And also DVI-I is a joke and totally dead and been dead for years, i think you mean DVI-D. The card is pined for DVI so it would still be 3x dp 1x hdmi and 1x dvi but then it would be a dual slot card.

True but the 6pin is just a spec, it will easily be able to handle more wattage no problem especially with a quality psu. How can mu1sums or wtv his nickname is trip his power supply when OCed lol. Each card can easily reach 400w and then some when its rated for 375w including the pcie at full load (which it doesnt ever do as far as i know)

Not sure yet since hdmi 2.0 hasnt been out that long or no one has tried, but i bet HDMI 2.0 to DVI-D will more then likely work. Reason it didnt work for DVI-D to HDMI 1.3/1.4 was more then likely bandwidth/pixel rate/clock issues. If someone has a gtx 1080/1070 id love to see em try even though those cards have DVI-D. Someone needs to try hdmi 2.0>dvi-d cable and see what happens.

My Korean 1440p monitors are only 60Hz so no issue for me with getting an hdmi-dvi adapter. Unfortunately the 480 only has one hdmi though (I think) so I'll have to dig out my old active dp-dvi adapter for the second monitor. I simply don't have the desire to replace perfectly good IPS 1440p screens just for dp connectivity.

I took a look on amazon for hdmi->dual link dvi cables/converters, they all seem to cap out at 1920x1080 60hz

This, but again some partner cards will certainly have DVI anyway. To get 2560 x 1440 means your screen already takes the extra HDMI link speed(as it should just like the BenQ BL3200PT does over HDMI without issues). DVI devices having issues with higher link speeds are expected(since the dual link design does not need it for most users).

I Wish my BenQ 144hz screen could since it has 2 HDMI ports(can get to 85hz with custom and reduced blank or whatever they call it). Only DP and DVI DL work for 120/144hz. Funny thing is over DisplayPort the screen says it is recommending 60hz, but it still works(DVI recommends 120 like it should). Too many variations even among one company.

They are single link(and maybe even passive). Dual link need to be active while single link can be passive(just a cable) since they speak the same language and speed at this point(1920 x 1200 max).

Long live Armania? This is not a political forum, sir.

Okay let me elaborate, I purchased an xfx black dd, it would stutter crazy due to the vrms not being cooled by the cooler or hear pipes not touching the pcb

So I was recommended by a fellow on here, to go for the Sapphire, but I did not and went with Asus direct cu 2 and still the same stutter persisted.

Next tried the gaming msi 390x and still the same issue

Lastly I went with sapphire 390x tri x and wow just amazing smooth as silk on and on par with my reference 980 ti and even the 980 ti felt stuttery

It does cool better then the others but if u had stuttering issues with 3 dif cards i would take into account case and ambient temps at that point. Lots of people have xfx/msi/asus cards with zero vrm issues.

And P.S. Armenia is not a politics issue its a country, same way if i randomly said long live France lol. Gets under your skin tsk tsk.

Yea unless theyre not a true dual link could also be an issue, thats the problem which cheap cables you just never know. One of the reviews i read somewhere guy got a dual link dvi and ended up having tons of issues it was wired as a single link but the connectors were dual link haha.

Lots of older AMD cards(I think 6xxx cards) used to ship with DVI-I ports and only DVI-D connectors to the board. That made for some interesting issues for users wanting to run old VGA monitors(The adapter fits, but does not work) and trying to use that port. Insane to think companies do not have higher standards since they should want users to come back
