Yes, yes, I know there are adapters, but when the vast majority of the people will be using DVI anyway it makes little sense to exclude it.

HDMI to DVI cable. Not even an adapter, a cable.

Also the Fury I got for a friend came with a DP to DVI passive. These will probably do the same. Done.

So your average guy buys FreeSync monitors right? And HDR? lachen.gif

I'd consider learning what mainstream means before saying "false".

You will see someone will figure out on how to output HDR over HDMI sooner or later. Mainstream market is more important than niche, proof is that there are already 4K TV's with HDR and 10 bit panels, meanwhile where are the 4K HDR monitors at? wink.gif

Every single PC (over 5,000 on this campus) I support has one or two displayport adapters on it. Exactly two have HDMI, and those two also have a pair of DP.

HDMI has zero foothold in the PC sector. It's all VGA/DVI/DP.

DVI and DP are both widely used for PC monitors. HDMI is more of an entertainment standard.

Correct, HDMI holds weight in the HT industry, but not in PC. Thankfully HDMI and DVI are fully compatible with one another so it's irrelevant.

Can't rep you a million times, they'll ban me again haha.

Again if we are talking mainstream including laptops, macbooks/pro etc etc then yea HDMI is king. If we talk mainstream GAMERS most are using either DVI or DP. Of course theres still tons of people who use HDMI because their monitor supports it and nothing else. My hp 2310m was dvi or hdmi. Both worked perfect no issue although my dvi cable was single link.

My new lg 29um68 is dp or dual hdmi no dvi.

Well, haven't seen anything worth upgrading from my 96hz 1440p QNIX other than ultrawide, and with new DPs on the horizon, I'll wait to get a 3440x1440 @ 144hz with FreeSync if I'm going to be spending $1000+.

Buying one of these cards doesn't warrant me spending another $300+ on a new monitor just to get a DP (and have my wallet DPed in the process) either. I'd rather spend considerably less and get a 1070 in that case... Or just wait and see which RX 480 AIBs will have one.

Since this is a dual slot card, and money seemingly doesn't matter to the DP elitists anyways, who cares if there's an extra DVI port there? It's not like you'll save $40 if they remove it. And if it's an OCD thing, why not just not look at it?

Are you going from DVI to DP or DP to DVI. An active adapter to dual link DVI should be just fine.

Passive HDMI -> DVI is limited to single link and 1920 x 1200 @ 60hz. DVI was not designed with faster link speeds in line so they used 2 links instead. HDMI went with higher link speeds(at basic 1920 x 1200 @ 60hz they are the same for the most part[not counting audio and later added features]).
I had removed my old post because it was from 20+ posts ago and i figured the DVI thing would have settled down smile.gif

Someone have the idea of when AMD will release something around 300 dollars range?

HDMI is a plug used for connecting your bluray player to a TV. Any use on a PC or laptop is just to provide compatibility with TVs.

It never was, and never will be the best choice for monitors. That is now DisplayPort. DisplayPort is the future.

Must have been using some fancy Monster cables for that rolleyes.gif

Many others may still use DVI. Most of them would require it for 2560 x 1440 or 1600 monitors and high refresh rate screens. I think this is why users want DVI to be left on the card. HDMI is able to deal with 2560 x 1440(even from a DVI port with a passive cable on many cards). This is done with a higher link speed. This does not work the other way unfortunately(DVI devices not made for the higher link speed).

Even some 144hz screens with HDMI do not support over 60hz(85 with a custom resolution) at only 1920 x 1080. This leaves dual link DVI as required(if they lack DP)
