When is it a good time to buy?

Thread Starter
Since the 1080 and 1070 are coming out, I am wondering when is it a good time to strike on the older cards (980, 970)?

I see that the GTX970 can be had for approx. ~$270 or less. which I think is a great deal. Other options include the 980ti, but that's still a very high price range.

I am not in the need for the latest/greatest video card. Just want a good bang for the buck card to be able to play current/future games.

I know I made a similar thread like this in the past, but decided to hold back (http://www.overclock.net/t/1559989/best-nvidia-value-card-today). But with rumors flying about prices falling down fast or soon, gamers can get a very good deal on the older cards. Is it wise to wait a little longer that Nvidia could be dropping prices for 1080 and 1070 as well?

I would probably wait until the AMD 480 comes out and see what happens to the prices.

If you'd rather not wait, Newegg has an ASUS GTX 970 for $220 (after $30 rebate). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121926 (Edit: And it's back up to $270 after rebate.)
If you're ok with waiting, I agree with PhillyB. The RX 480 is likely to really stir up the pricing for last gen cards or be a better value itself.

^^^Not interested in AMD cards sorry. Had problems with it before. I'd rather stick with the greens.

People have been jumping on 980ti sales... dipping in the 300's on a few occasions.

Always is a great time to buy... if you find the right deal.
Rather or not there will be stock, is another question. Might be a paper launch again... we will see
post #9 of 13
Agree with above...wait and see what happens with pricing when RX 480 drops. If you're convinced to stick with NV I would go nothing less than 980Ti/1070. IMO if they're both similar price going to be a tough choice.

I don't want to shell out so much money for a video card. That's why the GTX970 is right around my price range. ~$250 or less.
