Pcie cable extenders

Thread Starter
Are pcie extenders ok to use? Read mixed reviews on them all a few yrs old couldn't find any recent new ones.
The xspc waterblocks and graphic card HDMI port blocks me from using pcie 4 for my sound blaster Z "MB Asrock x99 extreme4"
Could put it in pcie -16 maybe? Pic below.

You should have too much of an issue. Although im unsure if the cable will affect the audio quality, Im pretty sure it wouldnt. Honestly i say drop the sound card because most high end motherboards come with really good built in audio nowadays unless you are running a super powerful set of headphones that need the power you wont notice a difference at all. But you shouldnt have a issue using a riser. Just make sure to read the reviews because there are cheap crap ones out there. Hope this helps.

Hmmm Actually I have thought about just not installing the sound card. What about 4 speakers in surround sound? The first or sec best I can find.
But yes your input is much appreciated smile.gif

I'm running 5.1 surround sound straight from the back of my board ( Asus z170 deluxe ) and its been crystal clear with zero issues. The audio driver immediately set it up as 5.1 correctly for me and i didnt have to adjust anything.

Pft best solution. Cut the dvi and your gpu io plate and youll have single slot gpu cards and bam you can fit your sound card anywhere lol.

Honestly id say get the extender. It will be more then fine especially if shielded. Everyone says mobos have awesome sound quality but it really depends on the mobo, nothing will beat an actual sound card made for it.

Eh it depends what he is running. Tek Syndicate did quite a few tests and found sound cards to be relatively useless unless you needed the power for a power hungry headset that needs more power then the on board audio can provide. And he is only looking to run some speakers. most boards 150$ and up have solid audio especially once you hit past the 200$ range. Though like you said it does depend on the chip installed. but all companys are open to the chip they use so its easy to find out if you are good or not. lol.

Yea ie i would not run onboard gigabyte audio as it looks average but on my msi gaming 5 its been fine especially with the dual 300a headphone amps. I compared it to a 100$ sound card and only thing that was better in the sound card was harmonic distortion.

Now i need to set up my actual 7.1 surround sound and game on that thru hdmi.

No idea where I got HDMI from, my bad.
Cut the dvi.. Like use a high speed precision grinder? Actually my first thought was to cut it lol!
I'll just go extender route if using sound card then.

Yea few people ive done it but then forget your warranty all together. I think extender should be fine. Again we don't know what kind of speakers and what not your running. Could always get a DAC and then run the speakers off that too.
