Asus Z170 Pro Gaming wildly fluctuating fan speed

I am currently using AI Suite to (attempt) to control my fan/water pump speeds. I've got a Bitspower D5 pump plugged into the CPU header, a 3 pin Noctua 140mm fan plugged into chassis fan 1 header, and a silverstone PWM fan splitter with 3 noctua 120mm fans and noctua 140mm fans plugged into it. The splitter gets power from a molex connector (psu is a silverstone st1000-g).

I had the same setup with my previous system, a Sabertooth 990FX board. However, after moving the pump/rad/fan setup to the Asus Z170 Pro Gaming system, all of the PWM fans have suffered wild RPM fluctuations, regardless of whether they are in "fixed RPM" or "smart" mode. With the pump set at 1750rpm, it will fluctuate between 1600 and 1900rpm; with the fans set at 650 RPM, they fluctuate between 550 and 800 rpm. The 3 pin noctua fan does not vary more than 10rpm from where it is set.

I'm currently on Windows 10 Pro. I have the latest version of AISuite installed, as well as the latest bios. Any help would be appreciated, as listening to my fans constantly ramping up and down is sure getting old...

I havent used asus's ai suite because ive had to many issues with stability with it. i did all my fan curves from the bios and aside from the fans ramping up when i open some programs it has been super stable. try doing the bios tweaks for fans over the ai suite and see if it still does it.

Are you able to create custom fan profiles in ASUS AI Suite?

Yes., that is the "smart" mode. Fan speed will vary +-100rpm from what the profile says it should be.
