No.

GTA 5 is here waving at you. I own 4790k now too. So double NO

Witcher 3 anyone? We can custom pick games all day. Fact is newer games are multicolor and amd are hitting their stride.
I've used both. Some games I would take the 6300, but most games I would take the i3. I'd rather have higher minimums than higher averages that don't tell the whole story.

You can always upgrade the i3 setup anytime you want (can't to do that with AM3+) + you can have DDR4, which again is great for future (you can easily add more).

Buying AM3+ is really pointless nowadays. Unless you have a specific integer workload, where you can benefit greatly from piledrive arch. thumb.gif

As all tests before have shown including this one, the FX series is outdated and no match for current Intel offers even at similar prices with very different core counts.
http://www.techspot.com/review/1087-best-value-desktop-cpu/page4.html
Don't matter if it's 6300 or 8300 vs lowest i3. i3 eats 6300 even in MT encoding...

They made a bad architecture decision and there is nothing to save those CPUs that can be done.

Wait for Zen or get Intel with DDR4 or 2nd hand DDR3.
The gap in mult-threading is not big, even though FX-6350 has six cores. i3 6100 only need aroind ~20% boost to to surpass FX6350 in multi-core performance

While I also advise in waiting for Zen and don't recommend buying into the aging AM3+ platform, this review shows that current FX-6350 and better CPU users achieve nearly the same score as a similarly priced Intel platform. The Intel platform obviously has the efficiency advantage and newer tech, e.g DDR4 and the fact that the have the option to upgrade a i7 or i5 CPU for much better performance at a later date.

I'm personally currently using a FX-8320 @ 4.5 GHz, I do have a slight bottleneck in GTA V in some areas and the GPU usage drops a tiny bit in crowded cities in The Witcher 3, but I don't see the need to upgrade until Zen arrives. My first upgrade this year will be a RX480 replacing my R9 280X.
