8370-9590 = Best

Strictly in terms of overclocking. Saw it on reddit when AMD's main rep guy revealed this to people looking to buy chips.

That rep is unfortunately just going based off of pricing, not actual binning. The 9590 unless overclocking on LN2 pretty much sucks.

the E series pretty much has the best overclocking potential in terms of %OC from stock to maxOC.

no, check that CPUID, that CB score is made with a 4.6Ghz i3, so its actually only 1.12 or +12% IPC.

I went stupid lol, never looked anywhere in that image other than the part of cinebench.

P.S. If only I had same level of concentration while studying. biggrin.gif

It's shocking to me that people are still having this argument on OCN. The arguments have not changed since 2011.

There's no logical reason to buy into AM3 at this point under any circumstances. I don't care what your workload or how low your budget is. It's outdated in more ways then I can count at this point and CPU performance is garbage. Who cares how it runs in GPU limited scenarios on a dead API (Mantle) when a large percentage of games in 2016 still aren't multi-threaded and get god awful minimums on the platform?

Just makes no sense. If you love AMD that much wait for Zen and hope for the best. I hope it's amazing I really do but at this point telling people to buy this stuff is giving them bad advice.

What we really need is desktop G34.

Don't get me wrong, I like my Vishera chip. It's fun to OC on that unlocked multiplier. If you're new to overclocking it would be a decent place to start. I bought it early this year to upgrade an old Athlon II X3 455 CPU. The only reason I did it was because I had a good AM3+ motherboard and wanted to upgrade my CPU inexpensively. The CPU only cost me $100.

Whenever Zen comes out, it will be arguably be a good time to buy a Vishera based PC because there will likely be bargain prices, especially used. New motherboards capable of pushing 5 Ghz on 6350's and 8350's have already fallen into the $100 range. IE the new Asus Aura 970 or the MSI Gaming.

To those advocating for $50 Intel boards, that's a pretty serious corner to cut. Maybe there are some good boards out there, but in my experience $50 boards mean at least one of the following: bad bios, poor features, or runs hot. That's how I ended up with my current mobo, I had a $50 mobo and it drove me crazy. Don't plan on one day upgrading to an I7 or an unlocked Intel CPU on a $50 mobo.

And where exactly do we disagree? Check my earlier messages , it is clear I suggest that in most cases 1151 is the best route. But I would never get stuck with an i3 personally. And the reasons are real.
