For the better part of this week I've been trying to get a good oc going on my 6600k. For some background I'm running this cpu in a single cpu single gpu water loop with a single 420mm rad and a single d5 pump.
At stock, temps were around 25-28c idle and in the mid 50s under load. Ambient temps been 24 and 25. I had gotten a successful ibt result running 4.7ghz @ 1.4v so I decided to do more thorough testing. I was running p95 v28.9 blend last night and monitoring temps off and on, temps hovered around 60c. At around 10 hours when I had my display switched to a different input, I switched back only to discover 'no signal' being displayed while the computer was still running.
Since then my idle temps have been from 40c to 60c, even reverting to stock. I'm running an MSI Z170A Gaming M7 and the motherboard temp is reading 39c at idle as well. Did I do some permanent damage using prime95? I'm gonna try redoing the thermal paste later today in case of something like an air bubble finally revealing itself over prolonged heat exposure.
My core question is, can a spike in idle temps be a sign of damage? I purchased the ptpp in case something like this happened but I would hate to have to redeem that so quickly.
