Get a new video card instead.

Thanks for your answer. How would I know if I need more cores? If I max out my CPU load? Because some games do that currently, like Rainbow Six Siege.

Most games dont use the CPU all that much and when they do it tends to be one core more then the others
This is the reason why upgrading the CPU does not matter all that much when it comes to gaming

Games are much more GPU bound then CPU bound these days so upgrading the GPU makes more of a difference
Ashes Of The Singularity on Windows 10 is about the only game i can think that might benefit from more cores and even that i am not 100% sure about.

And what about when you throw in streaming at the same time? If you know anything about that topic.
And thanks for explaining it.

I am not very familiar with streaming so i dont know if getting a CPU with more cores would help or not
If you want more cores then the 6700K then you are either looking at the Intel X99 platform or one of the 6/8 core AMD FX CPU´s.

BF series, Cities Skylines, and handfull of otheres use all the CPU you can toss at them. Cities Skylines even gets a bump from the intel 8 core. Have not seen a 10 core test yet. But its mostly noticed with large cities.

Most games wont use a lot of CPU, but some will hammer it pretty good. Also, keep in mind that streamers can take advantage of extra cores. Six core is a nice midle ground where you have four cores for the game and two more for stream software and what ever else the machine is doing. The impact on game performance can be a lot lower in these cases. Food for thought.

Yeah, thats why I'm confused about the best upgrade right now. I'll be playing BF1, probably wont be streaming it though. I do stream ArmA and other stuff though.

I would go x99 with the cheap 6 core. Overall cost is similar to a z170 an i7. But you have the extra cores for multi tasking. I am still on x79 and i never worry about background tasks. More than enough cpu to run a game and tone of background tasks. And zero impact on game performance.

It just seems like the X99 boards are very expensive.

If RSS is maxing out your CPU, look for an i7-3770K if you don't feel like spending the money for a platform that supports six or more cores. I suppose upgrading to a more modern mainstream i7 would be a decent upgrade, too. Either way, don't expect a world of difference.

You can get decent ones for around $200 last i looked. You dont really need a Rampage or other high end boards. Asrock, Asus, and Gigabyte all have boards in the lower price range for x99 that are pretty solid. I generally avoid MSI for motherboards. Have had issues with every one i have tried. EVGA is hit and miss after x58.
