Issues with GTX 980 Ti and 970a-ud3 rev 1.2?

Has anyone had any issues with getting a 980 ti to work on this board? My 970 works fine but when I try to add a 980 ti I don't get any thing to show up on the display at boot. The machine is still booting as the keyboard is still responsive but nothing is displaying. I've tried hdmi, displayport, and dvi. I'm running on the F8f beta Bios from 2013. Please let me know. Thanks.

Do you have any other graphics cards that you could try? Have you tried using another PCI-E slot? Are all power-cables plugged in. There should not be a problem using specific graphics cards with specific boards, as PCI-E is an universal, backwards-compatible standard.

Yes. My 970 works fine with no issues but when I take it out and put in the 980ti I get nothing. I've read some posts online of people with a similar issue. They say a bios update or disable legacy bios boot can help. I'm on the latest bios and don't really know how to disable the legacy cmos bios on this board.

By 970 I thought you were talking about your motherboard. doh.gif

I do not know the BIOS of that board, but are there any options referencing UEFI, EFI, Legacy etc? Probably under advanced settings or something like that. Also, have you tried the F7-version?

Ha. Yeah sorry. Gtx 970. Well I was on the 8 version before. This board has that hybrid uefi. I do not see anywhere in the bios to boot to uefi. I don't think it's truly uefi, just an option for 3+ Tb drives being allowed.

Looks like rev 3 of the 970a-ud3 has true uefi but not this one. If it has it then I'm just not seeing the option or in a different menu.

If it booted off a discrete GTX 970, there should be no issue booting to a 980ti. Sounds like time to return the card or exchange, whatever the options are.

Yeah, I'd agree with this. If you were running a graphics card of the same generation, two models down, and you can't run the 980Ti, the problem is most likely with the new card.
Unless you have forgotten to plug in all the power connectors, (either on the 980Ti or if your motherboard needs an additional molex plugged in for PCI-e power for cards with larger power draw) and you haven't plugged them in, that card sounds like it may have issues.

hmm where would I find out if I'd need another molex? I don't see anything in the manual. I have an EVGA 750w psu by the way. I've been putting the 980ti in the same blue slot as the 970 and even tried the other blue slot on the 970a-ud3.

I had an issue similar to this on an older x58 board and it turned out the GTX 980ti was not compatible with the board. I believe it was the amount of memory on the GPU and its relation to memory gap on the motherboard. I'm not sure if that would carry over to an AMD board.
