Issues with GTX 980 Ti and 970a-ud3 rev 1.2? - Page 2

I do only have 8 GB ram installed on the board. Are you saying an extra 8 may help or in your situation was it flat out incompatible?
I do not think the actual ram installed matters, it is just how the motherboard addresses the memory of the GPU, I'm not 100% sure on this and it seemed to be a really obscure incompatibility. In my case however the machine would not post, and would throw out a unique beep code.

Card worked in other motherboards, and other cards worked in the X58 board. Just the 980ti would have problems. If you are able to test the card in another machine even if its an older board with a PCIE slot you could try that before going for a replacement card. If you don't have anything else spare to test things out with I would suggest getting in contact with either the mobo or GPU manufacturer and see what you can work out if you don't want to replace the card off the bat.

Gotcha. I guess then if it's the board I have no idea which one to pick up that would work with it. I bought this board/cpu a couple of months ago to get a pc build started on a budget. Maybe I should look to see if someone's trying to get rid of their intel cpu/board.

I would find someone who can throw it in and test it for you real quick or a computer shop to test that GPU before you start throwing money at the rest of the system. Looking at your user name, where are you located? I am in the Birmingham area. If you are local I would be happy to test it for you.

Yup. The guy I picked the card up off of said it worked perfectly but he's about an hour away to confirm. I'll try and find a friend if they'd be interested in letting me try it out. I do have an old Dell XPS 720 but unsure if it would work on that one if it doesn't work on my newer board. I'll give it a shot though.

PSU in this 720 doesn't have anything that could connect to the 980ti so that won't work.
