True in that they are aimed at the consumer market, but not necessarily at the average Joe Blow; let's not deny that here. The average joe blow isn't going to drop $400 bucks on an SSD drive; heck to him there's absolutely no difference between a run-of-the-mil SSD drive and a performance drive.... it's mostly about price - Why am I paying $225 bucks for a Samsung 512 850 Pro, when I can get a PNY 480 Gig for $109 bucks? Yet most of us, me included, would go for the 850 Pro. Why?.... high end performance. While Joe Blow loves performance, this is something he's not going to pay a premium for.... just as most consumers don't buy top of the line items.

My point here is that those paying top dollar for performance items expect those items to perform at peak... not be hindered because of flaws. Yes, the average Joe my not care, or even notice, but we here in the enthusiast PC community will notice... even if we don't utilize the unit to it's fullest. This is what we do, it's why tech vendors covet us. We point out flaws and help make their products better.

Anyway as pointed out, not a show stopper, but something to take note of. And I haven't even mentioned the heat factor.

Peace cool.gif

I don't even know what I would do wo so much speed, but that does not mean I don't want it! biggrin.gif

Now I just have to wait for a RAID card to come out and buy a second drive.. Hopefully by then price will be even less.

So I literally just purchased two 950 Pros a few days ago... Should I return them and purchase two of these? When will these be able to be purchased?

FYI the benchs I ran are non scientific (ie CPU speed step enabled and Steam and other background apps running).

Why not using Asssd, CDM and Anvil for ssd benchmarking? Looks like you don't have the ssd connected to pci-e 3.0 ?

I'm not a big benchmark guy hence running them with Steam and other background apps on but just threw them there to show the % increase of the 961 vs the 951.

I'm confused on your PICE 3.0 comment.

The SM961 (that is the drive I benched and shared pics of) is an M2 drive and pluigged into my boards only m-2 slot. You and I have same
Mobo and the only m2 related option in our bios is to set a specific setting in Onboard Devices to "m2", which I have done. Have I missed another BIOS setting?

The only other internal drive present in a Samsung 850 EVO which is an SSD, but its a normal SATA-III type SSD drive.

SIde note:

I get a slightly higher burst today (forced the 6950x to run at full 40x multi in windows power management):

But cant find anything related to an M-2 and PCIE 3.0

EDIT:

Ran AS SDD Bench on the SM961:

Another edit, the SM961 vs a regular 2TB 850 EVO:

M2VSSSD.jpg

The write speeds seem a lot better on the normal SSD? Is this normal?

guys.. this is like the third time I'm asking - where can I buy this drive now in the US? None of the e-tailers seem to have it. I thought it was supposed to be available starting this week(?).
