2.4g Always Broadcasting Better Than 5.0g Problematic?

Thread Starter
Hey guys, i'm trying to figure out how to make my 5.0g band on my router perform better than my 2.4g band. I usually have 5.0 capable devices connected but I've noticed that it usually performs worse than my 2.4 band. The following numbers are from the Netgear Wifi Analytics app I have on my phone.

Router - Netgear Nighthawk R7000

5G Band

Channel - 40
-73 to -77 dBm
Signal Strength - 55-60%

2.4G Band

Channel - 8
-54 - -57 dBm
Signal Strength - 97-100%

Also i will note that both tests were at the same point in the house and in the room next to my office where my Nighthawk sits. My first idea was to change the channel of the 5G band maybe?

I would definitely try changing channels on the 5G.

Where are the throughput results?

You only showed Signal Strengths, and of course 5ghz is going to be weaker....

If you remember any science classes, you would remember that the higher the frequency (more Energy) the quicker it will dissipate.

The only advantage of higher Hz is the fact you can get more data into it, otherwise we would all be using 900mhz spectrum.

Even with a weaker signal, throughput should be higher or about equal. Unless you simply are just too far away.

I use Wireless AC and even with a weaker signal, it just kills 2.4ghz N. 2.4ghz in my house is mostly used for phones, which really don't need the bandwidth.
