Day 1:
I am unable to boot my machine up when the Asus Essence ST soundcard molex is connected. No POST, no fan spinning but motherboard and 980ti card has LED lights. Tried both SATA3 and PERIF2 as per image below

However, everything else powers up fine ONLY when I unplug the molex from the soundcard, which is quite bizarre

Is this some safety feature built-in on the PSU or is there a possible fault on either PSU or not liking the soundcard ? I'm guessing there's a circuit shorting somewhere ?

Day 2:

...Now I am starting to think it could be a faulty molex cable. Would that be possible ?

I do not have any other modular molex cables to test with. Will try borrow a 6 pin to molex OR SATA to molex for me to test with

  1. Took the soundcard to a friend's place - soundcard confirmed working, installed drivers and playing sound
  2. I have 2 spare molex fans at home - One fan did not boot nor power up my PC but the 2nd fan was spinning and able to power up my machine. Unfortunately, I did not remember which molex I plugged into. I just randomly tested as it was late, but will test in systematic order when I get home
  3. Plugged my soundcard into the molex but not connected to PCI and same as my original issue - no power and unable to boot
  4. Plugged the soundcard to PCI slot but without molex connected. Windows recognizes the card and notified me to connect the molex power. This confirms my motherboard standoff is fine and PCI slot is working. Did not test to play sound with headphones as I do not want to blow my headphones up (just in case)

Found a similar issue here though - http://www.overclock.net/t/1267784/can-a-molex-connector-cause-pc-problems
