[eTeknix] AMD Confirms $229 MSRP for RX480 8GB - Page 12

I still have my duo xfx 5770 1gb biggrin.gif

2x RX480 8GB = $460
GTX1080 8GB = $610 http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=08G-P4-5180-KR (link provided due to some people will make claims there are no GTX1080 below $700, and I'm sure there is even $600 cards from lesser brands like Palit, just didn't have time to look it up).

I don't know if saving $150 is enough to warrant higher power bill, more heat, more noise and most importantly suffer CF issues and be in developers mercy to have CF support for every new game.

People like to keep showing CF RX480 down our throats but it's just not practical and I don't see many people who are considering 1080 going 2x RX480 path.

So again, AMD doesn't have real answer to GTX1080, not yet at least.

Every stick have two ends. Back in the old days i bought two 5770 just for lolz. now i just dont have cash for two cards but if i had, i would grab two rx 480. just for lolz.

oh and btw. GTX 1080 from that link you have provided. It is out of stock smile.gif (autonotify)

Some sufficient with Nvidia and AMD in one sentence to start flamewar. Context is not very important.

You guys are so funny. Some people are complaining about the $30 for 4GB extra RAM. Do you think that stuff is free? No. Does it cost $30 to add an additional 4GB RAM? Absolutely not! However, I think the board partners making a little money on extra RAM is completely fine.

What I AM laughing about is the fact that AMD is playing the market so well right now. They release a "rumor" that the 8GB card will cost $250. The internet becomes split by this price. Some people are fine with it, while others hate it.

So AMD lets that sink in for a few weeks. Then they come out and say, RX 480 8GB w/ ref cooler = $229, and the internet collectively loses their mind and starts shouting praises to AMD.

Seriously, I know you guys don't fully believe me on this, but AMD has nailed their marketing on the RX 480... it is quite phenomenal how well they are doing right now. None of this is by chance; the "leaks" were not leaked. They were very precisely placed. Everything about this was calculated from the start, and frankly, it is absolutely brilliant.

It is all because p/p and p/w seems to be very good. Price is comparable to older brother (380) and we will get huge performance bump. That is why people are so happy about it and want this card already.

This is true, but AMD could have very easily come out and said "Well, this isn't our fastest card. We have Vega coming later this year, and it will be super fast and competitive. However, we think ou4 product is good @ $199. It may not compete with Nvidia, but it will be good."

Does that sound appealing to you? I know it doesn't to me... that makes me want to buy an Nvidia product.

Instead, they market this as a power efficient, VR card that is able to put the screws on Nvidia's current lineup, all for $199+... oh and if you want an 8GB model (which btw is the same amount of memory that the GTX 1080 has), it will cost $229.

Now I suck at maths, but which sounds more appealing to you? Buying 1 card @ $699, or buying 1 card @ $229 or 2 cards @ 459? Again, I suck at maths, but by my very careful calculations, I have concluded that $459 is in fact less than $699.

Like I said.... marketing. thumb.gif

1080 price range is not something AMD is targeting at the moment. Since there are no other Pascal chips or other 16nm chips from nGreedia it is what is often used in comparisons. At least they do show 2xGPU where as finding any info about 2x10x0 performance was for a long time difficult and later after cards were sold nGreedia said they won't support 3-4x anymore so people with 3-4x were ripped off biggrin.gif
