FTFY

Unfortunately that's just how it is when you're the underdog.

That's pretty much been the story thus far about the 480. I personally went in with no expectations.

For one, I haven't seen anyone here (for the most part) complain that the cost of 4 extra GB of ram was $30 more. The post that everyone is picking on...
...seems to interpret differently in my mind. Since we don't have JonnyMark to defend this response, I am going to assume that they thought the RX 480 was going to be $199 across the board. So when they saw $229, they thought AMD was gouging the prices.

I was talking to a friend who was going to build a computer and told him the price of the 8GB version, and asked me "I thought it was supposed to be $199?" People are so transfixed on the idea of $199, that anything more is considered a rip off.

Anyway, that's just my observation. I could be wrong.

As far as the card goes, ~$230 for phenomenal performance is a great deal. I almost expect every household to have a RX 480 in some way. biggrin.gif

I assumed he meant that they didn't release the price for 8gb before, so he's complaining about the marketing tactic / accusing AMD of testing the waters to see how much people would be willing to pay for the 8gb before setting the price

That makes sense too.

I would like to think AMD was trying to listen to the consumer when it came to pricing, but I have a feeling AMD knew the pricing all along. Anything is possible.

I am hoping it wont be the top and it would make sense for there to be a 490 in the future. There is some language on AMD's site that confuses me though.

"Today at Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) CEO Lisa Su delivered a pre-launch showcase of the full line of forthcoming Radeon™ RX Series graphics cards set to transform PC gaming this summer by delivering enthusiast class performance and features for gamers at mainstream price points from $100-$300"

http://www.amd.com/en-us/press-releases/Pages/e3-sneak-peek-2016jun13.aspx

Why have they worded it like that when there has to be something else on the top?

Are there really that many issues? I haven't had a multi gpu setup since my 4890s and even then, it wasn't as straightforward as using a single gpu, but I don't remember ripping my hair out whenever I wanted to play a new title.

Are these the same issues as "AMD driver issues" people are still talking about? Cause if so, I'll be first in line for 1080 performance using 2 x RX480s

In any case, I actually have to agree with you. A card of this caliber will usually not require (or even be able to use) 8GB of memory. But, I think AMD has learned its lesson with the Fury (X). I do think however, that such a large memory pool will make this card last longer.

I have a GTX 970. May move to the RX 480 4GB after this volt modding software comes out and we can get some big performance numbers out of it.

If UBI has even breathed on the game CFX will be nonexistent or garbage. TW3 ran ok at one point in time, it no longer does. Quite a few other games don't work well either. Anymore, its just best to turn it off or AMD recommends turning it off.

Back on topic, WOW did not expect them to sell the 8GB that cheap, gj AMD.
