It can be run on mainboard, in a 10 slot 4U and as a single or multiple card in a standard PC depending on needs. (iirc max 3 per PC for some reason, might be the mandatory 16x)

Simulation and virtualization come to mind. A graphics processor is going to have far more processing cores for drawing vectors and the like, but these Xeon Phi cores are going to be much faster at floating point arithmetic and Boolean logic. They also have the advantage of being able to natively run x86 code on each processing core.
