It won't sit and line up so I can screw it in. I think the the GPU is being blocked by the edge of the MOBO, that plastic cover/case.

Right. Motherboard is Asus Maximus Hero VIII Alpha. It has this plastic cover on the edge, decoration I assume. I had problems installing the motherboard last night but it is sitting in perfectly without me forcing it in. The screws are perfectly in but I can't get the GPU to go all the way in. It won't line up to the edge so I can screw it in.

The 970 reused from my P8Z68 PRO/GEN 3 fit perfectly in it.

I'm going to try again. I've been having a hard time because I've been building the PC all night and didn't sleep. I'm going to see what is actually preventing it from flushing in. I'll get pic if I fail again. But that's the exact picture.

What's preventing it from going down any further is the GPU itself, the silver part. The GPU will not flush in.

Have you tried loosening the motherboard screws and gently moving it to give yourself more room near the PCI-E slots?

Probably a solution. I did see that the screws don't look exactly dead center. Looks like MOBO is a little bit far right. But what about that center prong though. That looks dead center. I didn't look at it. Probably there is room to move left even with that center prong.

Loosen the screws and test seat the GPU, I'd beat the board is just slight misaligned. If it seats well take the GPU out and re
screw the board down.

Try putting it in bracket first. Honestly with Corsair cases I've had a lot of luck doing it that way.
