[PL] Oculus Rift Exclusives Are Not Bad for VR Industry: Says Oculus Founder - Page 10

Lol,

What makes the haters here think that your average Oculus Rift owner cares about exclusives?

What makes you think that people on OCN represent regular Rift users?

Most Rifters dont even have a Steam Login - they just don't care if Vivers are *****ing about exclusives.

What they care about is they have a more than adequate home screen and lots of content.

Oculus sold 119,000 DK2s

The launch sales were "better than we could have hoped for"

6 months later they STILL haven't caught up with PRE-Orders.

When was the last time you saw a paid for advert for an Oculus Rift? (me = never)

When was the last time you saw a paid for advert for a Vive? (me = I see them all the time)

Do you really believe Oculus isn't happy with sales figures?

Do you think they sold LESS than DK2?

Do you believe they planned to make fewer than DK2?

Sry guys - as much as you don't like exclusives, Oculus have got it made at this point.

When was the last time you saw a paid advert for AMD and Nvidia? I see lots for Nvidia, none for AMD. By your logic that makes Nvidia the failure.

Nobody cares what they planned. I planned to be an astronaut when I was a child. I'm not an astronaut and the Rift is a failure.

The fact that FB now owns Oculus i dont see them going anywhere in terms of leaving the VR industry, but i would like to see pre-order/order numbers after the exclusivity info went online and future numbers when PSVR launches. Do you think Oculus can match Sony's cheaper offerings? Oculus got out of the VR gate first, but i think its still too early to tell how they'll manage. Once a company gets stigmatized, its very hard to remove.

Yes, I actually sold my vive and refunded all my vive games (steam was very nice about it, been 30+ days since I bought them).

A consumer defending oculus makes me question that person's integrity, it's proven companies sometimes hire people to praise them anonymously. Under no circumstances does it make sense for an actual consumer to get behind exclusive content. Exclusive content only benefit the people making $ off these deals, and hurts everyone else.

Oculus is destroying VR, splitting the VR community, and making everyone very hostile. My total vive experience, games, extra cables, etc was around $1500. That's far too much money to spend on a product that is being locked out of tons of exclusive titles because of the greedy people at oculus. I'll be waiting for v2 headsets, by then we'll have lots of content and hopefully this war will be over.

Facebook has nearly unlimited funds so unless people boycott oculus, this war is just the beginning.

No, it's not. For the past 30 years it's been a very accommodating, inclusive community that welcomed every new advance in the field with optimism.

Then Facebook bought Oculus, and began turning the screws just as everyone predicted they would.

That's fair and understandable. I sort of went the other direction. I was planning on waiting until Oculus's touch controllers came out and make a decision then. I was even leaning towards the Rift based off some of the comparison info out there, but Facebook/Oculus' recent anti-consumer behavior and dishonestly tied with inability to even deliver their product has pushed me to the Vive and I now have one order.

edit: The funny thing is I'm not even a huge Valve fan and have other issues with Steam outside of VR, but believe they are absolutely in the right here for the PC gaming community.

If this holds long term the only recourse Steam will have is to lock out the Rift, and only the Rift, otherwise the Rift can play anything while the Vive and other Steam VR devices cannot. That would be very bad for the VR industry.

Correction - SteamVR.

Also - new customers

If I get a Vive. I can play everything on SteamVR.

If I get a Rift I can play everything on SteamVR AND everything on Oculus Home.

hmmmmm Which one shall I buy????

The inferior platform that will deliver you ads, the Rift.

The fact that you are even considering the Rift shows you have no idea what's going on and how Spybook intend to fragment the market and dominate (destroy) it.
