[IGN] E3 2016: Bethesda is Working on The Elder Scrolls 6 - Page 2

Problem with using any other engine is it might not be able to handle everything. It's hard for me to put onto paper what I mean .. humm. Elder scrolls and fallout games are highly complext things just in the way the NPC's are, everyone is always shooting for graphics when the sheer content of their worlds baffles the minds of anything anyone else has done. Even the witcher 3 "Turns off" events and things when the player is too far away, in Bethesda's games somone on the other side of the map dies without your knowlage and your game has been affected. I don't think any other engine can handle what they want it to do. Not to mention, the year's they've had with their own engine they can already do awesome things with it. Something else people don't understand is that these games have to run on consoles too, Mod's help the PC version but it still has to run on the lowest common denominator, the XB1.

I did not buy fallout 4 because there's no dialogue, it's just one line replies.

I waited so very long for fallout 4, and it was crushing to see what happened to it.

A. Yes
B. No
C. DIE!

And neither choice made any difference to the outcome.

Humm there was this interview here [Pcgamer] where Todd Howard admits that it didn't work as well as they'd hoped it would.

I completely agree, the 'usual' timetable was that each game gets 2 years of support before the next is released. TES IV:Oblivion, Fallout 3, TES V: Skyrim, Fallout 4, > TES VI So I gaze into my crystal ball and say Fallout 5 is in the making and due out after TES6 biggrin.gif

Which wasn't even a Bethesda game sadly, twas Obsidian, whom didn't get their bonus' because trolls downrated the game on Metacritic. redface.gif I like both companies but I grew bored quickly of FO:NV I could -never- put my finger on what it was, the characters were better written and more 'adult' more customisation for weapons, more factions .. but I was bored. However FO3 kept me interesting for all of the 160hrs (ish) it took for a single play-through. I just find it sad and weird at the same time. mad.gif

I'm interest in what TES 6 will be more than an announcement that they're doing it. After Skyrim launched Bethesda into the limelight with over triple the sales of Oblivion and the success of FO4 you can bet TES 6 will be sold out before launch!

i thought this might the largest obstacle for Bethesda, though Arkane Studios heavily modified id Tech 5 to make their new Void engine so would Bethesda not be able to the same with id Tech 6? Although this might be not the best example since we do not know much about Void engine itself.

In any event, even if they make a new engine from scratch, they would be fools not to use id Software for help in development

Did this ever mattered? Having played all Bethesda games since Oblivion, i just cannot remember a single situation like this to occur to me o__O. Probably, happened to me and i just did not pay attention to it.

Witcher 3, on the other hand, felt more alive than any other Bethesda game i have played.

Bethesda better have a new 64bit engine.

The engine better be a new engine and not the fake new engine they publicized for Skyrim which was just Gamebryo with pig lipstick on it.

I better be able to buy it in the store.

The game better be fully loaded on the CDs.

Leveling and loot better not be tied to your character as it was in Skyrim despite Todd Howard's lies.

They better not keep reducing the number of wearable armour.

I better be able to play it without Steam or any other 3rd party middleware.

It better be DRM free.

It better be Crossfire capable.

DLCs better be more like legit Expansions and small DLCs better be free.

They better not lock mods behind a paid wall garden.

Oh, who am I kidding? I’m out!

I'm going with Morrowind. I find everything else released after to be more in favour of console yes/no button pressing.

You guys want a new/different engine but you also want the same level of modding support. That's not easy to do.

I agree. If they can enhance the current engine for 64-bit support, DX11, SLI/CrossFire, etc. I would rather just go that route, and retain current mod support we enjoy with the franchise.

they'll rehash the same engine and remove even more "rpg" mechanics of the few that are left.

I had things like vendors missing, not so much a problem since most questgivers are immortal .. well almost all biggrin.gif

I was the other way around, The witcher 3 felt like there were pockets of interesting things but nothing else in the world of interest. I have honestly played 70 hours of it and I remember nothing but open fields of "Oh, another herb". The world didn't feel alive, it felt empty except what they wanted in certain ruins. Then again, with it being "Open-world" your experiance may very well have been different to mine.

All I really want from a new engine is the physics to not go completely nuts at framerates above 60.
