First Time O/C'ing FX6300 - Page 18

Cool. Then I'll do that for sure.

Yeah I'm thinking of upgrading to a cube. Not only does the Mobo usually lay flat but the GPU can pull air from outside the case making it much cooler and dispensing it's own heat more effeciently. The only downside is that you have to supply your own fans most of the time. A minor hiccup.

This is a good resource for fans. Case fans performance is measured by how well they PULL air in past the filters and of course noise. The first post has charts that show that.

I thank you for the info, but it'll be a while before I'll be able to get any. I was planning on getting one for that upper front area. It seems I can't even afford the $9 for it.

Okay, folks, my wife got her first loan since we've been together and we had some play money. So, what I've done is ordered another FX-6300 (the better oc goes to me the other to my son), a different case for so many reasons one of them being that I can get to the fans easier, 4 Corsair High Flo red LED fans to replace the ones in the case and to match........, Deepcool 240EX AIO, and to wrap it all up I got a 750w EVGA Supernova semi modular 80+ bronze.

The PSU was given a 9/10 for johnnyguru and it has 4x 6+2pin PCI-E connectors.

The case I was torn on, but settle with a DIYPC that has a clear side panel and I can place the AIO rad up top. It has 2 fans in front with a slot for a 3rd, which as I mentioned, will be replaced post-haste. There's also 26mm clearance behind the mobo if I decide to place a fan behind the socket.

I basically killed 2 birds with one shopping cart. I will have upgraded some parts and I will also have a majority of my son's build complete. He'll just need RAM, storage, a GPU, and Win OS.

Stuff should be in on Friday. Hopefully, by the weekend I will have pics of the case and comparison stats for the 2 CPU's along with the "winner's" liquid cooled stats. Let's just hope I don't get an even harder to oc chip. eek.gif

Edit: Here's the links to the parts with the exception of the FX6300.

Well, tater tots! Can you guys look at the corsair fan link on my last post and tell me if i can get by for a while with them as case fans. Other wise I'm going to have a black/red/blue theme, because I'll just use those fans on the rad with a push/pull config and put the fans from the AIO on the bottom over the PSU. Four more fans will cost me around $40 more. I should have gotten the AF120 instead of the SP120. Oh well. Live and learn.

Edit: I love my wife. I told her what I did and she told me to order the AF120's. Problem solved. I'm going to put the 2 of the SP120 and the 2 fans that come with the AIO in a push/pull config. The other 2 SP120's I'll put on the bottom above the PSU compartment.

So, I'll have red LED going all the way around the case, on the mobo because of ASUS Aura, and on the AIO pump.

Dang. I just realized that I'm going to have to rename my rig and update my sig. Hmmmmmm........what to name it?

GUYS! I have reached 4.3Ghz!

Hi again, its been 2 weeks since my last update, it was at @4.1Ghz CV 1.35v and run very stable, no freez, no blue screen, any error.

Now i bet to @4.3Ghz CV 1.43v, and here are the results:

This is Idle Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

And here is after stressing over an hour Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

And here is while I play Hots Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

It looks pretty stable, no high temps and no errors. Now it's the time to test it for another 2 weeks, hoping that not crash. And again, if it runs steady I will bet @4.5Ghz
This is something addictive =)

Wow! They weren't kidding about 2 of the same chips being different. This new one has a core vid of 1.25v for 3.5ghz. Hmmmm.......I might just see 4.5ghz yet.

I wasn't expecting frigid temps with a 240mm AIO, but I was expecting about 10c cooler than my air cooler. I'm only looking at idle temps, which are 17c minimum. Haven't started overclocking yet.

I will say one thing I found very disappointing about the Corsair fans. There were no indicators for which direction to place them. At first, I was pulling air from the rear and exhausting them from the front. No! That was not on purpose. So, I had to go back in and change them around.
