Need feedback 21:9 and 16:9 monitor owners

Hello OCN! I'm in the process of putting together a new rig with an i7 6700K and an Asus Strix GTX 1080 and would like to pair it with a large 1440p monitor.
I'm building a fresh rig for casual games and am really looking forward to some of the Xbox One ports. (Halo Wars & Halo 6, Forza, Gears of War 4, Dead Rising 4, etc)

I think 21:9 monitors are fantastic, I would love to own one. The problem is that NONE of the Xbox One ports support 21:9. MS / devs have shown zero interest in adding it either.
I would prefer a 21:9 monitor over 16:9, but as said support in some areas is non-existent and this frustrates me greatly. Do you guys think this will ever change?

With that being said the real question is, are 21:9 monitors worth the hassle? I don't mind changing settings manually, my main concern is that some games will never receive 21:9 support, ever. Playing with vertical black bars is a deal breaker for me.

I'm currently trying to decide between the LG and Dell monitors such as the LG 34UM94-P 34-inch 21:9 or the Dell UltraSharp U3415W 34-Inch 21:9
If I were to take the 16:9 route I would almost definitely go with the BenQ BL3200PT

My main preferences are 750 USD or less, non-TN, 32"+. Any feedback and suggestions will be appreciated. thumb.gif

I just switched over and i dont see myself going back. Quite a bit of games have native support and pcgamingwiki is a good place to start to check and even then sometimes they have it wrong. So far all my games natively or with a simple easy hack (either ini or hexedit) have worked, the only one that doesnt as you said is the xbox games ie for me Forza 6 but i still play with the bars.

With a 1080 id get nothing less then a 3440x1440 ultrawide but there easy above 700$ and then some. With that card though id seriously look into gsync if you consider going ultrawide but it will cost you lol.

Otherwise unless they bring support to windows games going 16:9 is probably the better choice, i wont lie though ultrawide is an entire different ballgame when it comes to gaming its pretty bad ass.

Even my old games like Mafia II and Just Cause 2 work in ultrawide natively, its a total pain as to why devs wont even do it when some just even need a simple hexedit hack, for example im trying out Unravel and its not supported, pcgamingwiki site and a simple hexedit of the file and voila game worked in 21:9.

Go for ASUS PG348Q for a real monitor and 100 Hz gameplay. 60 Hz gaming is so 2008.

Yeah, it seems that it's mostly games coming from MS that can't be adjusted or hacked. I'd happily go for G-Sync but the premium is an extra $500+ for 21:9 monitors (Swift and Z35 for example).
It's within my spending limits but I can't justify dropping $1,200+ on a monitor.

If the MS games were 21:9 compatible I would buy one without hesitating. I think a 3rd person game like Gears of War 4 would look incredible in 21:9.

Thanks for the replies so far, keep 'em coming! thumb.gif

As far as i know gears of war got ultrawide support with one of the updates, supposedly Forza 6 will too. i think its more annoying that games like Fifa dont come in ultrawide thats just utter nonsense.

And ultrawides are usually 75hz or so sometimes even more so no issues there. Honestly between 60 and 75 i couldnt tell a difference, then again i dont play a lot of counter strike lol.

Its def a different experience in ultrawide.

I noticed that, GoW got the update in March I'm sure Forza will get it eventually. I'd stick with 60Hz since I'd likely end up with skipping anyways.

One of the LG monitors I was looking at is on sale now, the LG 34UM94-P for $679
The LG 34UC87C (curved) has been on sale frequently for $700, which is the one I will be keeping an eye on.

The freesync range on those is horrid, one of the reasons i didnt get their 34" display. I hope forza gets support because a racing game without ultrawide is absolute nonsense.

I read that as well, I'm sad they never came out with a G-Sync model, I would have bought it in a heartbeat.

I've narrowed it down to the LG 34UC87C and the Dell U3415W currently.
I'm reading that the Dell has a little less lag and possibly slightly higher build quality.
