Its a registered trade mark by Nvidia. If they did that? It would mean they have stolen intellectual property owned by team green.
I don't see that happening, do you? Of course not...

Um, it's a joke based on a typo. Everyone knows it doesn't have CUDA.

wrong... AMD now has Coooda cores!!!! (hummingbird voice)

because they always did?? and the CU/shader units count is basically the main indicator of performance.

So you think it would be fine If you buy a RX480 and get 2304 CU's and I buy a RX480 and get 2560 CUs ??

This makes absolutely no sense. You make no sense.

Either you made a typo in your example or you're lost as to the subject at hand.

There has to be atleast some sort of indication whether it's a cut die or not. I don't care if its called 480 or 470.

The only thing I am wondering then is with the RX480, which is the cut die, would the full fat P10 2560 CUs be the RX490 then?

I doubt it, I believe AMD indicated that the RX 480 is the largest Polaris chip we will see... No?

Polaris= 460, 470, 480
Vega= 490, Fury, Fury X?

Also, when it comes to the name, I don't think it should matter if the name is any indication of a cut die. The only thing the name should imply is the order of performance. If it had to imply a cut die, then everything on teem green would be cut (Since they're all Cut down P100s). Savy?

GP104 is not cut down GP100 for the same reason the 7870 was not a cut down 7970. They are different designs. Cut down means they use the same die with whatever mount disabled.

EDIT: But yes, 480 is the largest Polaris 10 chip.

Ah yes, you're right. I was mixing up two different things. 1060 would be a full GP104. RX 480 is presumably (according to current announcements from AMD) the uncut Polaris chip.

I've heard the rx was for Radeon eXperience but I never got a source on that.

This makes absolutely no sense. You make no sense.

... The rx470 is assumed to be the cut Polaris 10 while the rx480 is the full Polaris 10 with 2304 CUs. Any mythical higher CU count Polaris (12?) based gpu would be higher number assumedly.

Relax. I think my lack of emoji has completely bamboozled your joke radar.

I can't follow the various people on this thread anymore. What I wanted to say :

I think if a chip has different amount of CU's they should have different names. Like nvidia has with the GTX 1080 (2560 cuda cores) and GTX 1070 (2048 cuda cores). Would be confusing if they were both named the same wouldn't it headscratch.gif
