Under that I would assume laptop parts

that'd make sense yeah.

More importantly, though, there isn't a GPU above the 480; unless there's a Polaris 12, the only possible addition would be a locked-down P11 as RX 450 or something. The 480 is 36 CUs, which is the full Polaris 10 according to AMD's slides.

There will be a GPU Faster which fills the gap between this and Vega, an enthusiast class Card wont have mainstream name.and there should be something that compete in high end, only that mid tier gpus have higher quantity sold

Mobile parts most likely

Sure is an awful lot of arguing in here over very minor and meaningless details.

Can't we all just wait patiently whilst still being excited and collected?

I would hope not. That would be a pretty tiny performance jump between the two cards cause of only a 256 core difference. They should just keep the "X" or similar marking on the end of the name to indicate a slightly more powerful version. But that assumes we will see a 2560 core version. I am not even sure there is such a thing as I believe 36 compute units is what AMD designed it as, not 40. Each CU on the RX 480 has 64 cores, same as Nvidia's Pascal architecture. People only assume there should be a 2560 version of the 480 since that is what Nvidia has in the 1080, but I dont believe AMD designed a larger die like that.

Thinking about this though, it does seem odd how much of a performance difference there are between AMD and Nvidia cards. AMD has a 2304 core design, but loses in games by a massive amount compared to nvidia's 2560 core GTX 1080. Seemingly showing that AMD has far weaker cores or some other major architecture deficiency. After all, shouldn't a very similar core count with very similar memory bandwidth and similar ROPs and TMUs result in similar performance? But AMD has historically been much stronger in compute performance than Nvidia. So perhaps AMD's cores are far stronger, but the geometry processors and rasterizers are much weaker? IDK. Just something I thought of right now thinking about the core count of each of the cards. It would be really interesting if we ever saw an RX 490 that had the exact same everything as the 480, but doubled the ROPs and TMUs and see what the performance difference was then vs the GTX 1080.

Too bad it isnt the 1080 with 1920 cores tongue.gif

I bet it is probably clocked higher, but wouldnt it be awesome if the Scorpio GPu was a cut Vega? eek.gif
