Which of my 2 routers to use? (One repeater)

Im hoping one of you guys could give me some advice, Ive been using a Netgear WNDR3800 N600 with charter communications. I have been looking to boost my signal so my dad can watch netflix next door. A friend of mine gave me the routers listed below.

NETGEAR WNDR4300 N750
NETGEAR WNR2000v4 N300
NETGEAR R6300v2

Which of these should I be using?

Also Ive heard I can take one of my routers and turn it into a repeater which would extend my signal is this correct?

Ok, so out of those routers the R6300v2 Is the best overall in terms of performance. I would replace your main router with that one then use either the N750 or the N600 as the repeater for the signal, from what i have seen netgear has the option for all of their routers to be turned into repeaters, repeaters basically take your main routers signal and replicates it persay throughout its range, so for something like increasing netflix and streaming performance it is the best solution, so set up the main router first then set up the second as the repeater, then then your dad connects just make sure he connects to the repeater and you should be good. Hope this helps.

The NETGEAR R6300v2 is better than your current router. tongue.gif

Load up DD-WRT onto the WNDR4300, and use it as a repeater.

Use the 5ghz band as a connection between the two, and the 2.4ghz band as the boosted signal with different ssid.

When you say "next door" are you talking in an adjacent townhouse or apartment, or across a field in another house altogether? If it's a significant distance, I'd give some consideration to running a piece of fiber between your houses and put a couple of Ethernet to Fiber bridges between them. The reason I say fiber instead of copper is to negate any ground differences between the two buildings, or creating a pathway for lightning or other surges between properties.

What Hammong said.

If 'next door' means a shared wall then wireless could be fine. If it means two exterior walls and 15+ meters then wireless is not so fine. An alternative to fiber would be copper so long as you buried the line (and used line suitable for the application.)

I hate to bring this thread back from the dead but I desperately need some help. I don't care if I have to PayPal someone some money in exchange for a phone call. I set up the repeater only to recieve 11mbps at the next house through the 2.4ghz band. I don't fully understand the whole bridge situation or how to use 5ghz at the next house. Not to mention my father's xbox 360 doesn't catch 5ghz signals.

How strong is the signal? the option to bridge the router should be there and very straight forward, biggest question is did you or do you think you have it set up right and if so is the signal good? im thinking it might be to far away though im doubting it it is a possibility.
