It usually does. I tested many games with my CPU against newer ones, GTA 5 included. Almost no performance difference when GPU is @100%

True, but think of the audience of the $200 card. Sure AMD is hyping it up for VR, but lets be real; this is going to just be the sweet spot 1080p card for 99% of people. You could do 1440p, 4k, VR, whatever on a 480, but it doesn't mean you should.

The RX 480 is going to kick butt at it's price point, especially with 8GB of VRAM! It's going to be good to see the reviews for the card as it should outperform the GTX 970 and possibly even the GTX 980.

It's kind of hard to say for certain without seeing the GPU usage but I strongly believe they are CPU bound throughout numerous parts of the benchmark, and the most obvious thing which is probably affecting the performance is the drivers. This is an unreleased GPU so like I said in an earlier post it's probably not running on the latest drivers for it.

The clock-speed the GPU is running at is also a mystery. and the video is also missing scenes from the benchmark.

Providing drivers are the main thing limiting the performance and if that really is an RX 480 then i can see some solid performance coming from it when the GPU launches and official drivers are available for it.

Don't forget that nVidia is doing better than AMD in GTA5. And your card is @1550MHz. It will be faster than 480 in GTA 5 no doubt. There are some parts of the benchmark that are indeed CPU bound. He got ~100FPS in one such a scene, while I got 70, for example. But I didn't measure at those points.

This card will perform slightly better than 390. I call it now, as I was calling it since we knew it has 2304 SP's

Yeah, and there's less DX11 CPU overhead on NVIDIA GPUs.

Even I'm CPU bound throughout some of this test, it's mostly the ram holding it back though as I'm running 1333MHz ram with my i7 4790K at 4.7GHz.
One of my faster ram sticks died so I had to swap out the whole set and run them at lower speeds. rolleyes.gif
