OP, have you considered buying a binned 6700k?

https://siliconlottery.com/collections/lga-1151

One guaranteed to hit 4.7 or 4.8 could be the middle-of-the-road solution you need, IMHO.

Also, there are several media servers you can use that support QuickSync (your 6700k) or nvenc (a Pascal card). VCE (AMD) support is a bit more elusive for some reason, but I haven't looked much really.

If you use the asrock OCF board, you can lower the volts listed by 0.03-0.04 vs the asus maximus impact

I just got a 6800k, I pair it with Sabertooth x99 and a GTX 1080 and waiting for another one. I haven't get the chance to overclock it yet but stock temp are crazy good idle around 17c and highest was 38 with a Corsair h110. I will try to overclock it next week when return from my vacation. GPU and CPU on stock the FireStrike benchmark.

Which CPU did you own before the 6800k? Do you notice a nice difference?

Idle at 17c? Your ambient must be 10c or less
post #27 of 60
My previous CPU was a i5 4670k wasn't a great overclocker but serviceable otherwise, I played the Witcher 3 and notice about 8-10 extra Fps at 3440x1440, my Physics Score when up from 5,000 ish to over 15,000.

As for ambient temp it was about 75 degree outside and I don't have a air conditioner on my man cave... Could be that the Noctua thermal paste help a bit extra. I'll be back Sunday I plan to overclock it to a least 4.2 ghz and test some other applications. I couldn't decide between 6700k and the 6800k for weeks until I finally pull the trigger. So far I very satisfied with how stable everything feel.

In real world situations I really doubt youll notice gains. get the Skylake, I have the i3 6100 and honestly i yet find any bottleneck, and yes I will get a 1070 as soon as they are in stock.

^Thanks for the reply. I really wish there was a 6800k vs 6700k comparison video with both running at over 4Ghz. Be nice to see how they really stack up in various games.
