[HWUnboxed]Nvidia’s HB SLI Bridge – Surprising gains! GTX 1080 SLI Testing Inside! - Page 4

post #31 of 169
A single 1080 is 1-2fps behind SLI 980 Tis in those games? Really? I haven't run an SLI rig in a few years, but wow...

If scaling has really gotten that bad lately, that's embarrassing.

So heres a question. Two Titan Xs in 4k using a single bridge SLI connector. Am i likely to see a gain going to a dual bridge setup ? I actually went to an EVGA high performance bridge just a couple of weeks ago but its still single. Should i grab the ribbon connector and add that in also ?

I have witcher 3 so i'll try it tonight and see what happens i guess.

To be honest i never thought this was an issue up to a few weeks ago when the 1080 HB info came out , mind you i've not played much in SLI on the 4k monitor but ROTR really does benefit from 4k res unlike a lot of games presently.

Flow chart of SLI profile:

if new_bridge_detected = 0
normal_mode = 1;
else
gimped_mode =1;
end

+1 .. nvidia is definately capable of that.

I have maxwell SLI and i'm more scared of the lack of driver performance updates to come.

Some users have been reporting performance gains when using two single bridges with their 1080 SLI setup. To my knowledge this caused issues with the Maxwell based cards but I decided to give it a shot after completing all the testing previously. To my surprise with two flex connectors installed I received the exact same boosts in The Witcher 3, Division and Fallout 4 as I did with the high bandwidth bridge. So it seems if you have two legacy connectors you don’t actually need a high bandwidth bridge.

So at least 1080 SLI don't have to use the HB bridge.

Not sure what his "issues with Mawell" were, but this should be easy enough to test for anyone who has Maxwell SLI + two flex bridges.

Well from the vid Maxwell should gain nothing by having dual bridges but Pascal does in certain titles by a ridiculous amount. 20% + over single bridge.

I've managed to get a EVGA single LED bridge , combined with a flex bridge on my TX setup by removing some screws on the led single bridge so it fits. The LED however is off on the LED bridge so it could just infact now be working off the flex bridge only.

To hinder matters witcher 3 seems fixated on 60 fps lock and i'm getting 60 fps in ultra in 4k (1520/8050 oc in sli) .. so i cant prove much until i can remove the lock . ITs not in the nv drivers, gsync is off, afterburner is not frame limiting it so hopefully updating the game will fix it so i can test with the single bridge and without.

nvm found the frame cap , was in the games specific driver settings.

Tried dual single bridge which was most likely not working and it gave identical results to the led bridge on its on. I'll try single card now and see what the scaling is like for me vs this review.

Something badly off in this review in the witcher 3 with Maxwell cards. My scaling from single card to SLI. 4k ultra settings , 1 card 50-55 FPS , 2 cards 82-95 FPS - sli seemed to improve after a min or two of looking around and then was consistently in the 90s (for the particular scene i was in). ~ 72% scaling taking max / max fps. The reviewer gets 55% scaling max / max with the HB bridge and pascal so yeah i'm getting better results here with maxwell lol.

I think a bugged review , i'm getting much better scaling than this review.

Spend $1200 to $1400 on video cards, complain about a $40 SLI bridge that actually has much better frametimes, and doesn't look like ass.

this, but have no problem buying special bridges from EVGA/MSI for 40 bucks rolleyes.gif

I'm going to pick one of these up when I grab a second 1080.
