With my CM nepton 280l I could run ~4.2 and 1.20v on my 5930k before heat became an issue.

he should be able to run it at that for sure

maybe you got unlucky or just bad mounting on you're part im running a 5930k 4.5ghz @ 1.26v on a H110i GTX which is a 280 also and i dont even come close heat problems max its gone to is 65c max

Nice temps and rig. Hoping you are right and if not, it'll give me a reason to upgrade to something better.

As for my h100, I've had it for a few years now. I just got it replaced with a new one two months ago. It should be able to cool the 6800k jut fine and if not, I'll drop it to 4.2-4.3Ghz until I buy a better cooler. Thanks for the suggestions though. I'll look into them.

Because GTX 1080 is limited to 2 way SLI anyway, so 28 lanes is plenty for me. 8x vs 16x lanes on a GPU doesn't matter for bupkis, never has. So you can run two GPUs at 8x lanes each which = 16 lanes. Then you have another 12 lanes for THREE more PCI SSD's or RAID cards etc..etc.. which is more than enough. The 6850K literally has NOTHING over the 6800K except 40 lanes instead of 28. For me 28 is more than enough as i only ever plan to have two GPU and one or two PCI SSD at most, i don't need a wifi card as i have good built in wifi on my Rampage V, don't need any other PCI cards either really.

And yeah the H100 should cool the 6800K good enough, i'm just saying that if you really want to push clock speed you would do well to have more rad space if possible. I'm sure you can easily do 4.2 or 4.3 on an H100 without throttling, i mean the chip was tested on an H105 iirc, at 4.4ghz 1.344v or lower so it should be fine.

Did you not read his OP? He clearly stated he's buying a BINNED chip from siliconlottery that was tested by them to hit 4.4ghz at 1.344v (OR LOWER) on a Corsair H105 cooler....so.....

Just because your retail HASWELL chip doesn't get good overclocking doesn't mean his guaranteed binned BROADWELL one won't. Plus i kinda doubt you were having heat problems on a 280mm rad at 1.2v + 4.2ghz lol. You seem to have an awfully strict definition of "heat problems".

I understand. I wish I could splurge on a new Asus anniversary mobo.... I'll have to settle for the Asus Strix instead.

Not on P95 your not.. Even with custom loop a stock 5930k will hit those temps.

Ugh, I caved and pre-ordered the Asus Rampage V Edition 10. It's too damn beautiful and I like collectors editions.

and P95 actually matters? i dont think it does as i have ran aida64 and real bench for 28 hours a piece and this is more than enough for me and i use mine for gaming and other things as long as its stable 24/7 i really don't care smile.gif its been overclocked since day 1 of purchase and i've had 0 BSODS or anything so ill take it as it is and temps are perfect for me.

temps for my cpu during BENCHES are 70-75c
Temps for my cpu during GAMING are 65c max

i dont like prime95 never have never will but each to there own method of benching / stressing / testing smile.gif

What's cool about about buying a binned chip is that I won't have to run Prime95 at all. I'll just set my 6800k to 4.4Ghz, voltage to 1.35v for starters and use my computer like I normally would and go from there.
