The power draw issues have been verified by multiple sources with retail cards at this point. The XFX overclocked card is pulling ~140w for just the GPU ASIC itself (with a whopping 22mhz OC), as shown with the on board power monitoring hardware. The memory and VRM eat a good 30-40w at least, putting the total draw up to 170-140w.

The HSF should have been at least a single heatpipe unit with fins going all of the way to the bracket or, ideally a vapor chamber unit with more fins per inch.

Im wondering how badly the card is hurting margin wise for them to have cheaped out this bad on a crucial product launch.

its perfectly fine for what it is.

a $200 card.

it isnt meant to be overclocked, thats not its purpose.

how many people in the $100-$300 segment do you really think overclock their cards?

thats what AIB cards are for.

Its a $240 card.

If these flaws were only on the 4GB card, you would have a point.

You would be surprised by how many mid range cards get overclocked.

you would be surprised how many do not.

It is not an enthusiast segment..

a vast majority in this segment are set-it-and-forget-it.

The extra $39 for the additional 4GB doesnt change anythign, its still a mid-level card.

Yep, and I got a 750 Ti with a better cooler for $160 new. There is no excuse for the crap cooler.

Actually, I got an R7 265 with a better cooler for $130 new.

difference in perspective i guess.

to me the cooler is fine, it works perfectly well for the stated clocks on the box.

If i want something better, i look to the AIBs.

Not sure how you reason, enjoy your 750ti no need to upgrade to the rx480 then?

Noise seems fine on the 480, cooling also.
so whats crap about that?

your expectations?

No, the point is that a better cooler could have been budgeted. Reference coolers don't have to be trash, and it wasn't long ago that a reference cooler was actually pretty decent.
