Polaris RX 480 / RX 470 / RX 460 Discussion Thread - Page 22

To all those that are holding back with purchase of rx 480. Stand by with it yet. There might be a price fixing by importers. One of retailers in Poland (X-KOM) explained that they are not to be blamed for high pricing. They cannot sell something for msrp becasue they cant even buy it (AS A DAMN BIG RETAILER). I belive that companies that import IT stuff to countries are to be blamed.

O wszystkich zmianach będziemy informować Was na bieżąco.

Actually, I got an R7 265 with a better cooler for $130 new.

Maybe you missed my post or conveniently ignored it. Are you saying the reference cooler on 750ti isn't trash and is actually decent? I am not trying to defend reference coolers myself, i am just trying to understand what your saying. Reference coolers have not always been great and Nvidia or AMD isn't going to care about Overclocking as much on budget parts. Like @The Mac said most people buying in this range are not going to overclock. I think you are overreacting on this point. If this was a 250+ watt card aimed at enthusiasts I'd understand better. I am going to refrain from posting anymore about this cooler stuff as this may be the owners thread soon. Then it will be more about owners and less about what people think who probably don't own the card.

So I have a feeling that there is going to be at least 4 varients of aftermarket rx 480s. Read this article they clain 4 varients of blocks.

Cool to know smile.gif

This would have been a better reference cooler...

And guess what? It was the reference cooler for the HD 6850, a $179 card that had a lower TBP @ 140w.

Good luck with the cherry picking coolers other than the one you first claimed to prove me wrong. I am not going any further on this for potential respect of the thread.

As per the above discussion about coolers and overclocking. I really wonder how many people will actually water cool this card even if it's AIB due to it's price range. time will tell thumb.gif

Like rly guys ?

This card is total garbage. A lot of ppl, including me, was expecting(and hoping) for more from AMD.
In terms of architecture, amd is about 2 years behind Nvidia. Sad facts....

In terms of power they matched Nvidia 970(released 2 years ago) and newly released 1080. YES 1080 has the same power draw but ~double the performance!!!
It even exceeds the power draw limits for pcie slot and 6 pin which may damage your motherboard permanently:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-radeon-rx-480-polaris-10,4616-9.html.

In terms of performance they matched Nvidia 970 and AMD 390.

So basically....we have AMD "GTX 970" aka AMD RX 480....after 2 years.

Overclocking ? Non-existant. 5%-7% extra ? Seriously?

In terms of money, thats a fail too. Gibbo said already, AMD will not produce more 4GB versions(those cheap ones) so either you buy now or you will have to pay more money for 8GB version. Now the question is, do u really need 8GB with such low performance if you wont utilize it ? No.... So you end up paying more for nothing.
That means, that now this new RX480 8GB costs the same as 2 years old GTX 970.

Now...as we already said, 970 have the same performance as RX480. However if we look at overclocking this is where the story changes. You can get 1500MHz easy with gtx 970. Thats ~25% OC...and not this crappy 5%.
GTX 970 clearly wins.....

...... lets not forget temps. Whooooping 95C rolleyes.gif

Vid for this:

And no I'm no ones fanboy. I had 295X2, Asus ares 3(RRP 1400£!) and more amd cards and even Freesync Benq XL2730Z monitor. Amd cost me a lot of money and I lost faith in it. I moved to the green team....the grass is greener there! thumb.gif
Dont waste your money on bad products.

Sounds like BS.

AMD has stated several times they dont set MSRP for individual markets.

Its always USD, ands always for the US market.

Any price differences are due to shipping, VAT, and price gouging.

Gibbo over at OCUK is always *****ing because he has to buy in USD, and with the brexit and pound and euro all over the place the prices are constantly changing.

No, I just provided a better reference example since my first one was not reference. The 750 ti I'm using came with an ACX cooler.

The point was not reference vs reference, the point was that actually including a contemporary cooler should have fit into the materials budget for the design.

of course it is.
If HD6850 could cost $179 and have this cooler then why this rx 480 couldn't have it as well? Rx480 aluminium crappy cooler looks like from year 2005.

Now.....you say 200$ card. Well GTx 970 is NOW a $200 card too. Do we get more from it? yes. Its the obvious choice!
Now ...what this "$200" card has to do with architecture and power consumption ? Nothing. I was talking all about crappy architecture. Amd is way behind nvidia in terms of architecture. Facts.
