Under 3D load my rx480 stay at max clockall the time(1400)... Even in dirt rally when the load is really low... My previus 290x underclock automatically when needed... Is it normal? I don't need full clock all the time

Bottom line, we were in the benchmarks for this article clear: Direc3D-12 support is in many games not yet mature, but in doubt benefited the Radeon RX 480 by Async Compute. In Doom volcanic API the performance increase detected is particularly high, with Hitman D3D12 interface also shows a strong performance boost.

However, the Geforce GTX 1060 remains within reach and often located in front when used D3D11. We believe it is possible that the Radeon RX 480 will overtake the Nvidia card thanks to the gaming consoles in the medium term.

atm same performance and same experience.
that the 480 arise along the way to be better over time is expected due to the cpu overhead in drivers for amd is improved.

Meanwhile every Nvidia card launched is faster than any AMD card launched and even on market from previous generation.
Nvidia is holding high pricing, possible lower availability, milking every chip to the max and AMD has not a single GPU to counter even the 1060.
AMD has turned into the lowest budget, sure with the price hikes 480/1060 is kind of a top of the mainstream, but still the fact that the GPU stack up in performance and pricing like this is truly disappointing:

460-470-480-1060-1070-1080-TitanX

They should have aimed at matching the performance like so:

460 - 1060
470 - 1070
480 - 1080
490 - TitanX

And not a single word about availability of Vega based GPUs, meanwhile Nvidia launches the TitanX at an expected Intel like price hike. Of course keeping 1080Ti as a trump card to ruin any possible Vega card.

Did you know that you can buy a lamborghini car?
its fast really fast and Volvo dont stand a chance vs it or even a Kia.
if you dont buy that car the fast one while it does cost a lot more in fact like more than a house its faster so why would anyone ever buy anything else ever?
I dont understand that myself everyone have to buy lamborghinis by now dont they?
Everyone I meet here has lamborghinis as they are so fast and expensive.

anyhow, AMD under estimated the sales of the 480 and keep on producing more wafers and chips.
seems to me as a success card like the 970 and like the radeon cards of old.
funny how that works.

and I dont see you or anyone else complain about how expensive lamborghinos are or other cars are that are so fast?
funny how that works.

Markets works differently than users on forums says.

I have said enough about both vendors and what I think about their pricing.
Game developers will certainly start pushing up the complexity which Nvidia cards will be able to handle but AMD will not. Plus Nvidia can drop the prices 6 months from now to make their cards more affordable once they have enough stock to sustain the higher sales volume.

I'm a budget buyer but what AMD is showing this year is disappointing to say the least.

The 1070s are selling a lot same as 480s despite their stock being lower and price much higher.
Sure cards at $500+ don't sell in high volumes. But the lack of competition from AMD in offers and pricing allows Nvidia to keep the steep prices making it worse for everyone. It's the same with CPUs vs Intel, AMD has nothing to offer for years and allowing Intel to dominate and set the pricing to their liking.

why? amd way of releasing is actually quite good since they dont have to rush cards out with no cf or to crank up the boost clock in order to pass one..
having 480 on this place vega 11 might as well be 20-22% faster than it

Short lite review of 8GB 480 Nitro+ OC, which has higher boost and faster memory than 4GB Nitro card:
