Polaris RX 480 / RX 470 / RX 460 Discussion Thread - Page 86

hey, my r9 290 seems to be dying (artefacts, driver crashes), what your general thaughts on its replacement? asus strix 390 for ~ 265 euro, rx480 nitro + for 267 euro, evga 1060 for 235 euro or wait out and see Volta+vega presentations?
although if BF1 and titanfall 2 will give me driver crashes, I won't wait.

First i would try older drivers. Wont hurt but it may help. If you want noticable upgrade, get 1070. If you can wait, wait for Vega and see whats what.

nah, i switched drivers, reinstalled windows, overclocked, underclocked, swapped GPU bios, swapped MB bios, even tried GPU on different PCs. there is certain amount of games in which i see artefacts (blue or green pixels in arkham knight and overwatch) and certain amount of games which cause crashes in 1-2 minutes after launch - battlefield 4 (no crashes/artefacts in bf3, hardline, SW:BF, despite the same engine), rainbow six siege and dark souls 3. the moment when i desided that i definitely gonna buy a new one gpu was when driver crashes began occure in CSGO and while watching HTML5 youtube videos.

I don't need "an upgrade" at this point, R9 290-390-480-gtx 1060 is more than enough for 1080p, and 1070/1080 seems like an overkill for dx11. I would think about 1070 if it hadn't crumbled in dx12 - i am sure that NVs volta will have something like 1070ti with similar to 1070 DX11 performance and HW supported async compute, and 8-16gm HBM memory.

So grab rx 480 and sit tight for 4X5 radeons and nvidia volta. Your jest choise. Or if you can find 1060 cheaper than 480, go for it.

Where did you find the cards at these prices?
computeruniverse.ru, it is German retailer. they are listing items for non-eu countries without VAT and sell them outside EU, which makes basically every PC part 18-20% cheaper than if you buy same items inside EU. (although delivery will additionaly cost about 25euros, but it still much cheaper than local sellers in Russia)

afaik if you go to this site with .net or .de domain, they will list same items with EU prices. for example superclocked 1060 evga at .ru page costs 251,26 € + delivery, and at .net page it 299,- € plus delivery.

Even though amd cards age well, especially the 290/390 series, I would go with a newer card. 480/1060 can't go wrong with either one. I'm partial to amd, and the 480 is a fine card that people don't give it its just credit.

The 480 will perform better in DX12. Nevermind the recent news that Nvidia putting maxwell in the legacy drivers category. Maxwell has been out how long?

AMD did the same with GCN 1.0, those cards don't run anymore on 16.7.2 july 19 nor 16.7.3 drivers. I've tried, it's buggy as hell.
Thx I'll check the retailer. Yeah well you've listed EU prices without VAT so that's why they seemed low.
