latest drivers crash my overclocked 290x since 16.7.2. No issues with drivers prior to 16.7.2

i'm on 16.7.2 with 2 290s. so far so good. I also updated from Win7 to 10. One thing, though, I did not accept Overdrive. It seems that follows third-party app like Afterburner but not sure if all settings are set properly like VDDC.

The HDD with Win7 has 16.1 and after the install update . . . Win 10 decided to install AMD Firepro. Uninstalled that and installed 16.7.2.

I've been trying to figure out to UN-accept Overdrive. Win10 update did it for me.

DDU the driver out and reinstall, that for sure declines OC in driver.

The pricing of MSI cards is ridiculous the last 1-2 years because of how way too popular they have gotten. They went from being a cheap offer to the most expensive along with ASUS, even GB is getting there.

Why? It's just a UI lock-out, not an actual change to how the drivers are working.

Actually it does make it mix up stuff on some driver versions when you enable or accept the Overdrive, probably carried over to WattMan too. Which can conflict with some 3rd party OC like Tweak or AB.

Its nice to see the conclusion there, 89-91% (for that set of games) of the performance of the 1060 for 72% of the price .. very nice. The slower memory hurts it a little. Also no throttling , saphire doing the job right for the 4gb card thumb.gif

Like Jack said, Overdrive (not sure about Wattman) follows third-party app settings. If I bench my 290s to 1300 core using Trixx, for example, Overdrive will try to follow that app's settings but I know it won't apply +200 on the VDDC. Now, if Overdrive takes precedence or Winows recognizes Overdrive over Trixx, then my OC will fail. Not sure how much voltage is allowed in Wattman. For 1200 core it is fine 'cause my 290s only needs +100 and I know Overdrive can handle that.

@Othello, both the 480 and 1060 are capable of 1080 easy. At 1440/60Hz, like the reviewer pointed out, both can handle games as well. But, at 1440/144Hz, two cards will be needed but the 480 is the only viable solution of the two.
