Fan replacement advise needed

Thread Starter
i am trying to replace my current fan of my project which is too loud, 35 dba i think.

the orignal fan is from delta nfb1212m
http://www.delta.com.tw/product/cp/dcfans/download/pdf/NFB/NFB120x120x25.4mm.pdf
specs:
12v
.26a
1700rpm
2.456 m3/min
86.01 cfm
2.18 mmh2o
0.086 IN h2o
noise 34 dB-a
3pin dc fan

now i am looking for replacement
will aerocool ds/ noiseblock n12-p be a good choice?

thanks

A 1850 RPM Nidec Gentle Typhoon would be a perfect replacement. Similar airflow, good bearings like the Delta, but less noise.

The aerocool ds is a good choice if less airflow is acceptable.

but according to ap15's spec
1,850 rpm: 0.083 A - 28 dBA - 98 m³/h

it's way lower airflow than the one delta produce..

Fans in use always make more noise than specification.

Specifications are open airflow (no resistance) and pressure when air stops flowing at full speed.
Sound level is open airflow (no resistance) at full speed.

When we use a fan, the noise level is a combinaton of sounds air makes flowing thru grill, radiator, etc. plus the increased level of sound of fan working against this airflow resistance.

Are your fans running fixed speed? If they are, setting them up to change speed depending on airflow needs like CPU and GPU cooler fans do will lower their noise levels significantly.

Gentle Typhoon is known for it's low noise and good airflow. While not as much as you now have, probably more than enough to fulfill your needs.

Model-No.: . . RPM . . . . Amp . . . Noise . . . Airflow . Pressure
Gentle Typhoon
D1225C12B4 1,450rpm . 0.049A . 19 dBA . 46cfm . 1.3mm H2O
D1225C12B5 1,850rpm . 0.083A . 26 dBA . 54cfm . 2.06mm H2O
Compared to what you now have
nfb1212m . . 1,700rpm . 0.26A . . 34 dBA . 86cfm . 2.18mm H2O

there is two mode of this fan

when projector is set to eco-mode it's like runing 70%speed , when std-mode runing at full speed.

pressure-wise i think ap15 is good enough, but how much will airflow effect on cooling ?

coz i don't want to blow my projector's lamp. but still i want my projector be quite!

I didn't realize the Deltas airflow/power draw was so much higher at a lower RPM.

The 2150 RPM Gentle Typhoon might be what you want. It's airflow rating is closer to the Delta.

My guess is the Delta was used because it delivers the airflow needed to keep the projector cool, and that is why it runs at 70% even in eco-mode. I would not use a lesser fan in it's place.
