Well my Rift just got in, so glad this decision happened now, has been kinda a roller coaster of emotions since i was told its gonna ship soon and its too late to cancel and go HTC route...

Been pretty fun so far, and fits with my glasses, and feels 1000% better ergonomically on my face than the Dk2 i had. Getting Valkyrie and my HOTAS up and running next, then my G-27 and racing games... didnt build a cockpit for nothing !!

1.Too late;

2. Not really reassuring that they won't reverse the decision in the future because this isn't the company's philosophy, they are essentially fighting the consumers on this and doing it begrudgingly;

3. And finally, not nearly enough to steer the ship. They still have draconian telemetry that can't be turned off and have explicitly said that they consider pushing Facebook ads in the future (not right now, of course, they are in the bait phase).

As I said before, in my opinion Oculus' business model as it is currently modelled under Facebook's interests isn't compatible with what the VR PC audience wants, so they don't have a future.

Good but still not gonna support Rift.
They did it because the were pretty much forced to do it and that surely gives an insight on where their priorities lies.

EXACTLY. (and oh hey look I can rep staff now)

Mark my words: this DRM will be reinstated as soon as the opportunity presents itself (reaches threshold marketshare, competitor falls far behind/exits market etc)

They will create the oppertunity, I bet they are discussing timelines in staying on track to market penetration. This is a grind em out strategy they are betting on it, they will outlast the consumer on this unless we are VERY unrelenting period on this. Mostly it means buying competitors if and when possible, and unless Facebook has a severe technical advantage and luckily now they are quite behind (that will not always be the case) or a period of favorable pricing will speed up marketshare grab when they are ready, once they have the #'s they target they will tighten down as much as they can.

We should likely stay away from oculus while owned by Facebook? Though I welcome them to push tech fast enough to sway us all, hehe!

After them constantly going on and on about how it's a good thing, then add in the fact you get a bunch of additional accessories in the box you probably don't need.... Nope, my money's going to HTC for their Vive since from the get go they've talked about how it will be open, then there's the delivery window (72 hours after ordering it's shipped? GREAT, I won't have to wait MONTHS to get one!), and then I'd also have the option for room scale VR if I so wished.

Nice to see them FINALLY cave to pressure, but like so many others, I expect Oculus to wait a while and then try it all over again.
