My question is why don't all the Gigabyte boards get it? I didn't even know the Gigabyte boards had that plain basic classic one until I got the Gaming GT. Even my Z87 Sniper 5 has the Smart Tweak BIOS. Than again, that's also a high end board.

Anyway I hope Gigabyte spiffs thing up with the BIOS as it's the one constant I've seen reviewers complain about. As well as the horrendous fan control in the BIOS. That hasn't changed at least since my Gigabyte X58A days.

That's a damn good question. frown.gif I'm emailing Gigabyte asking about RAM compatibility. Maybe I can get an update on Smart Tweak. For the G7, the last stable BIOS was 4/1 and last beta was 5/16. The GT is about the same, but the last beta was 4/29.Troubling...

Agreed; I wouldn't mind the Classic BIOS if it just looked cleaner or at least a full resolution one on all display inputs. The Smart Tweak one, though busy, looks great.

And fan control, yeesh, agreed. I'm losing 2 fan headers going from a $180 board to an $220 board. Is $40 not enough for some more headers, Gigabyte?

And the BIOS fan control, yuck, yes, I don't even touch it. At least SIV / Speedfan work OK.

Hi sygnus21,

I've asked our PM team to look into the HDMI vs DP issue. I'll let you know what they say.

In terms of the BIOS overall we have listened to feedback about the layout and specifically the fan control. I can confirm our new X99 and Z170 boards have a new BIOS that addresses these issues (see below).

If there are any other areas we can improve our BIOS let me know and I will pass it along!

Edit: It appears from the SS your are on BIOS F4 (kinda hard to read). Can you try BIOS F7B:

Wow. Thanks Matthew,

Yeah, fixing the res issue would be a great start, and a great improvement.

And I don't use or install the Easy Tune / SIV software with my boards. I never add extras unless I absolutely feel I need them. There are many of us like that so it would be nice the see more fan control customization on the UEFI BIOS side of things as opposed to having it software side. This has been complained about for years, even by professional reviewers... BIOS lack of fan customization.

Amway...

With regards to the BIOS I'm using, I am in fact using the F7b beta BIOS on my Z170X Gaming GT. I've not updated my system specs yet, so it still shows my old Z87 system. However, I did list them in the first post of this thread.

Thanks.

I'm with you on controlling the fan in the BIOS. The screen shot I provided is of the new fan control in the BIOS. It's a start. I'd also like to see a way to manually enter numbers instead of manipulate a graph. Sure its 6 of one half dozen of another, but I like entering in numbers wink.gif

As for resolution I will get back to you with what my PM team says about it.

Whoa! I did not expect this. I just got off the phone with Gigabyte and he had no idea about new BIOSes, sadly. That new fan control is great and I'm with sygnus21; the more control in the BIOS, the better.

Out of curiosity, by "new", do you mean those "purchased new" now or those "newly released"? Like, will 2015 motherboards (like the Z170X-Gaming 7) get the BIOS update or only 2016 models (like the Z170X-Ultra gaming)?

So the issue is drivers / BIOS size. For every feature we add we have to remove something... Hence some boards may have different driver sets. The BIOS on that board is a 64MB chip. Going forward we are switching over to 128MB chip. That doesn't solve your issue, but I figured I would give you the why behind it.

Unfortunately its rare for teams to go back and implement new features to older boards. The only updates older products generally get are compatibility / vulnerability / new CPU micro code.

TL;DR 2016 only.

Thank you for replying. At least now we can make informed purchasing decisions. That makes sense, sure...they're about a year old, so new features aren't expected. Except, though, either TechReport reported it wrong (haha) or maybe the plan changed as time went on--technically, this September 2015 review of the Gaming 7 stated the Smart Tweak UI was "in the works".

OK, so then to decide between the Z170X-Ultra Gaming or the Z170X-Designare. Do you have any idea of a release date on these? I can't find either anywhere just yet.

EDIT: wait, the Designare is up on Newegg!

Off-topic: I noticed from both of these, Gigabyte is dropping the Creative SBX Pro Studio software add-on (that works on even Realtek chipsets): is that correct or has it not been uploaded to the drivers section yet? I have the download on my Z87 board's page & the Gaming 7 has the "full driver suite", which includes the Pro Studio stuff.

So why/how is it that the "higher end" boards like the Z87 G1 Sniper 5 or Z170X G1 get the tweaked BIOS, but the other boards don't?

And I'm all about seeing improvements but looking at how you state the fix may come, I may never see it unless I buy a future Gigabyte motherboard. Hopefully this isn't the case and we can get a new BIOS with the current boards. Sure, it may not have all the bells and whistles, but it should be at least an improvement on the current.

Anyway thanks for chiming in and providing what info you could.

Appreciate that.

Oh, and if that's the new fan system that's going into the BIOS that's cool as something is better than nothing. And yeah, manually inputting numbers would be nice.

Thanks.

TL;DR 2016 only.

It looks like all/most existing X99 are getting the new UEFI interface. I was hoping that the update would also be available for some Z170 (as it was implied in some reviews).

At least the 'classic' interface is working better than the old 'SmartTweak UI', even if the fan control is really lacking (it's and well behind what MSI and ASUS are offering. Hopefully Gigabyte will get it right at some point).
