Stability testing software

Hey guys, I'm having some problems with stability testing recently and I need some help. Well, long story short, I have an Athlon II x4 640 on a very poor motherboard, and I wanted to overclock it, even the slightest bit. So I bumped it up 300Mhz as people here suggested, and then i tried runnig prime95 to see how it would go. Sadly, after about 2 hours on blend, it crashed, so I disabled the OC. The funny thing is, that when I tried running prime95 on stock speeds, it crashed again, and to add insult to injury, quicker than with OC (Temperatures were fine on both occasions. So I thought it was the programms fault, and tried using LinX for tesing. But, when I extracted the Zip and tried running it, it seemed like it just sat there doing nothning, my CPU was sitting in idle at 30C, and on top of that, I couldn't stop the test without using the X on the corner (I am using the latest version, 0.6.5). What is going on? If you know how to solve the problems above, or have any other usable stability test to share, any help would be greatly appreciated biggrin.gif

Prime95 has never been culprit of errors, except when it comes to support new chip release. It's highly unlikely that it is incompatible with your Athlon, but if you want to be sure, use v27.9. I 've used it with much success to Phenoms and Athlons.

Prime95 is doing simply math calculations. So there is no much room for error on its part. Most likely there is something wrong on your side (hardware, BIOS or windows installation). Try bumping DRAM voltage a bit (to 1.6v).

Thank you my friend for the info! Saddly I can't change the voltage because my mobo is absolute trash, so I'll try it again, maybe it was just coincidence. Well, in the end, if it crashes again, I'll use it as it is, as long as it doesn't get bsods. Im looking forward to a new pc anyway. smile.gif

Your motherboard has locked DRAM voltage? Wow, i 've never heard of this before... Anyway, you can find v27.9 (64bit), here:

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/system_tools/misc_system_tools/prime95_64-bit.cfm

The problem is this. If it fails in Prime95, it means it's unstable. Which means that you can get BSOD. But, if you 're lucky, you may get away with having BSODs rarely, if you don't push too hard the system.
