Any reason why? Top score in FireStrike Ultra still belongs to a 980Ti BTW. Kingpin edition.

The RX480 is getting hyped really freaking hard. Mostly due to the GTX 1080 being so expensive.

But in all honestly the RX480 at 199$ (or even more if you take 8GB or custom designs) is not the GPU of the century that blew everyone away. It's good for people coming from 2011/2012 cards or people that start budget PC gaming, but thats about it.

It sucks really. Problem is 290X/290 are super power hungry cards. Also 480 is a new toy to play with. I just do not think reference card is good enough to OC that that cooler.

I know. I want to buy an AMD flagship card, but I can't find one. I would love to buy VEGA10, but where is it?

I hope that non-ref models won't take too long to be released .

True (my 290X is no miner card though).

Power draw is very important, but shouldn't be overrated. How often do we really game at full 100% GPU load and how long?

I play a lot of games that don't even require 10% GPU load. It's no big issue for me. I am waiting for a real upgrade (that is if I am still interested in PC gaming with increasing prices. Nintendo NX and PS4K NEO look more interesting to me)

plus I do think its the "GPU of the century that blew everyone away", all because of the price to performance. and the fact that its affordable to those that cant afford $500-$900 GPUs.

If the RX 480 means more PC-bros can game at better quality, I'm all up for it.

sure that's a good thing, but it's 2016.

It really isn't that great. I am pretty sure the GTX 1060 has similar price/performance.

I understand what AMD is doing, but I don't like it. It may be a right decision from their point of view, but for me the only important thing is what I care about. I'd rather have a GPU that is as fast as a GTX 1080 for 500$ instead of a RX480 for 200$. To each their own. I understand other peoples point of view, but I really only care about my own (it sounds worse than I how I mean it).

RX480 probably gonna sell well.

AMD managed to create hype and marketing. Something they lacked for the last 4 1/2 years.

I hope VEGA10 doesn't wait to long. Mid 2017 would be an absolute catastrophe

Haha alright, I'll take it.

really thinking about grabbing a 980ti, have been since I saw earlier benches of the 1070 only beating the 980ti by about 10-12%
But sadly here in Canada
1080 =$920-1000
1070 = $610-750
980ti (Used/Refurb) = $500-600
` ` (New) = $849.99-909.99

which is ridiculous

I considered getting it once reviews are out and are satisfying because I thought that low TDP card will be easy to cool and will be quiet even on reference. But once I saw multiple pics from GPU-Z with this reference design needing 2000 RPM+ just to keep itself barely below 90C after OC, I passed. I am okay with 80-85 temps, but only if this is achieved on very low noise levels. I will wait for some beefy custom cooler that will be able to keep this card cool without exceeding case fans noise levels.
post #50 of 112
The 480 will probably be my next card, but you have to consider aftermarket cards and reviews before making such a purchase in my opinion. Even at $230ish, I would still wait to make sure that reference cards aren't overheating, loud, and can actually be overclocked well without being limited by the single 6 pin. It would suck to make a purchase only for better cooled chips to come out a couple weeks later.
