And like I said before, that doesnt call the store. That number listed for each stores location rings to a call center in Ohio where the staff would have zero idea regarding things at the store which arent in their inventory.

True however it also said something about not even being fully loaded and capped or something like that.
Only for new games CF would be advisable and I doubt this card will be strong enough to play older games at very high settings on a single card. In terms of value it will be hard to beat I think.

I agree in terms of price compared to the 1080.
But the 1080 is not the only new card. There is also the 1070, with a bit better 980 ti performance, and 380$ price tag.
So for 1440p, there is no real reason to get two 480s when you can get a single 1070.
The 1080 is mainly aiming at 4K and high VR, or extreme 1440p performance.

The 480s are aiming at the cheap VR systems, 1080p, and are not really in the same category of the nvidia cards. Once nvidia brings out the 1060 and 1050, than we can see competition in that market.

I think honestly the 4gb versions are for miners, there is hardly a benefit from having 8gb of VRAM on a miner. I think this was a smart move.

Call them and press 3, stay on the line, ask to speak to ______.

This is all getting very psychotic. 1080p is 1080p, an RX470 will run most games at 70fps, some at 50fps and Crysis3 at full detail at about 35fps on 1080p.
The RX480 runs LITERALLY 10% faster than that. A nV 1080 is useless at 1080p.

But as I've seen, most people who are getting an nV 1080 that have brains are kinda impressed with what AMD has done. Sure it's not a top-end gaming card... but then neither is the 1080.

It'll be interesting to see how this all goes sideways for them.

Very sideways.

You also underestimate people's intelligence.
If someone is on a budget and can read because there will be plenty of reviews AMD is still favorite.
At this point the only people I've seen saying they would still consider the crippled 970 are fanboys.

Na, it's better that the masses adopt a well rounded architecture. Sony and Microsoft did for that reason.

Every "local" phone number routes to a call center in Ohio. Nothing you say can change that.

They probably chose AMD because of the position AMD was/is in. Hard to turn down work. Nvidia probably wanted more money since theyre in a much better position. Microsoft and Sony don't care about anything but the margins
