But the 1080 is not the only new card. There is also the 1070, with a bit better 980 ti performance, and 380$ price tag.
So for 1440p, there is no real reason to get two 480s when you can get a single 1070.
The 1080 is mainly aiming at 4K and high VR, or extreme 1440p performance.

The 480s are aiming at the cheap VR systems, 1080p, and are not really in the same category of the nvidia cards. Once nvidia brings out the 1060 and 1050, than we can see competition in that market.
I hate my life, it is 470-500 euros here.

It's not that much doom and gloom the market crash is just a temporary thing and there will of course be a rebound. The thing that is bad for the British is the decrease in value of the sterling pound versus US Dollar. The reason is that people actually have pounds and some of their wealth evaporated. A low pound however is beneficial for trade and manufacturing investments something the UK is going to need.

The real Brexit is perhaps more than a year away and may not even happen (Labour wants to ignore the referendum and some of the Tories want the same). People in GB will just buy whatever graphic card they want for the years to come in the long term we will have to see how thing turn out.

Indeed online prices are not that bad in the UK even at this moment. more like 1/2 of a 1080 and that is probably even a place holder.

Seriously, who in their right mind would trade unlimited breadsticks for a measly 4GB extra memory on a video card?

My Schatzki's ring tells me you can keep the bread and give us the memory instead.
