I set the starting bid at MSRP, bidding pushed into marked-up price. If I sold at MSRP I lose money from ebay and paypal fees. Given that I couldn't return either of my previous 1080s for refunds(replacement only policy at both retailer), I took the economically sensible way out rolleyes.gif

People who actually want the card include me btw, I got the 1080 FTW in my rig right now and it will probably stay there until 1080 Hybrid comes out.

You would have to rely on reporting, i.e. a buyer reporting someone for trying to sell a product higher than MSRP. I don't see why it wouldn't work? Why are individual buyers special? It's not fair to retailers which are bound by MSRP.

This is all hypothetical at any rate; just what I'd like to see happen.

I can agree with covering the ebay fee and shipping, just not the buying and selling for intentionally ripping people off that don't have impulse control. I have always sold tech on ebay for reasonable prices, I usually sell for 60-75% original value. I already have two 980Ti on a shelf and I am only looking to make back one of the 1080's worth and I almost think that is being aggressive. But to each their own... right? rolleyes.gif Just people with attitudes like PAM cooking spray dude make me think this world is headed into the toilet bowl.

I wouldn't mind it either, to be honest.

Individual buyers are technically the end user. The people who the product is selling to. They shouldn't have to be bound to a retailer's limitations. The worst a company can do is what most already do: Void the warranty if not the original owner. They can't say "you can't buy our products anymore." It could be a bad PR move for that business, especially if many others don't agree with that move.

Overall, the moral is "speak with your wallet." You have absolute buying power. If most collectively agree that you don't want to spend $600 for a 1070 being sold by some kid on eBay, then don't buy it. But you know there's some people who absolutely need that card now, as if their lives depended on it. Just to be the first or the quickest to own it. I guess you can say for the e-peen.

a "right" is protected by law or declaration, which there is neither for someone to resell a product or item at a higher than retail market price. however a person CAN do that as long as no laws are broken.

A retail store and an independent owner of an item are two completely different things. A retail store is set by certain limitation by the manufacturer, as an individual person is not. That is why we have people selling off certain items for different amounts. If everyone was held to that standard, everything would be set to the same price. Nothing more than that. The "right" I speak of is not bound by law. As I said before, you are in possession of the item. You're not renting. So it is yours to do with as you please, even if it breaks any sort of warranty.

i'm not talking about the difference between a retail store and an individual because that would muddy the waters. and fwiw i agree once a person own's an item they can do with it what they wish;as long as it doesn't break the law. (can vs. rights)

the only "right" a person has to resell anything is copyrighted material that they legally own.

Besides, as long as it's not breaking any laws, it IS their right. Just as long as they are not bound by regulations whether it's local, state, or federal law.

Things like games, movies, or music are a different animal. You own the medium it's on, but not the material. You're basically renting it.

I think the term "right" might be very broad to interpretation. Many view the word as being able to do what they want within the limits of the law. That's how I view it. "Can" and "right" in this instance are one in the same, in my mind. Your interpretation is a little different.
