AMD FX Running hotter than usual.

Hello, I recently started getting very hot temps (that I normally do not get). We recently had a storm and my computer took a couple hits but I doubt that could cause any real damage. Anyways my usual idle temps are 29/30c. When I play minecraft I never used to go over 40c at load I now always quickly catch it. I am very concerned as I used Windows defender full scan and it got up to 47c while scanning and I don't think that's really damanding. I have a watercooled cooler so it makes me even more nerves. I also have some applications running in task manager called system and compressed memory and antimalaware service excitable that take up some CPU usage I don't know if that's normal either. Someone please get back to me ASAP and I'll answer any questions I can. Or I might be just going crazy and those temps are fine. But I would hate to see my temps on a demanding game! Everything is stock settings.

I forgot to add it's been acting up for about 2 days and I don't wanna play anything and take the chance of it roasting. I installed the new bios update hoping it would fix it but it didn't do anything. So I am really stumped how could my temps suddley go bad at load. My psu is gold rated and 1000 watt I doubt the storm surge could have effected it.

You haven't given us any information whatsoever and, thus can't help you. Saying your PSU is 1000W is meaningless, not to mention you haven't told us which FX, board, cooler, case, fans, etc. This is why we have the option to fill in our PC's so others don't need to guess.

47c isn't terribly hot to worry bout'. When you see 60c plus, then worry.

Windows defender will use more threads than minecraft even with mods.

Relax and chive on. everything looks ok to me.

Ok cool man. I guess I am a little paranoid. The thing is I like to overclock. I am afraid if my temps are like that at stock it will be crazy hot at like 4.5/4.7 ghz. Especially with a demanding game.

BD uArch maximum temps are 70C for both cores and socket.

This 60C myth died years ago but is still being bandied about as truth.

70c?

My Asus boards throttle at 65c socket (motherboard) temp

And PC shuts down at 85c which is thermtrip (on my particular FX chip) Core temp.

Where do you get 70c from? AMD OverDrive? (this is just a suggested max temp for AOD. the cores can run hotter than this)

Let me edit:

I am wrong. TCase max on FX-8370E is 70.5c

TCase max on standard 8370 is 61c

FX-9590 is TCase max of 57c

Thermtrip (core max temp) is 85c on them all.

FX-8350 Maximum operating temperature ? 61°C http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bulldozer/AMD-FX-Series%20FX-8350.html

I am confused asf. What's the max temp and average load temp for the FX 8350. Give it to me plainly please! And I am guessing when my PC shows CPU temp and MB temp the MB temp is the socket? Cause the only temps I see is something labeled CPU Temp and MB Temp assuming motherboard.

AMD Overdrives shows the thermal margin, which is at 70C. AMD never released temperature limits of the Vishera series and CPU-World are guessing and guessing badly with numbers all over the place. The limit is 70C, with spikes of up to 80 being acceptable and shutdown at 85.

I have no idea which board you have but obviously its VRM's overheat so it throttles. I've had three CHV's and none of them throttled due to having high quality VRM's.

If you are in doubt please go over to the FX thread and ask there.

Install AMD Overdrive and use another temperature monitoring program (HWInfo is acceptable) and you will see that AOD shows thermal margins, which added with to the actual temperature comes to 70C.

Anything to the contrary is false information as AMD only released temperature specs of the original Bulldozer chips but as Vishera is the same arch there is no difference in thermals.
