No SLI option in nvidia control panel

Thread Starter
Hey guys.

I am just wrapping up my 5960X build with a Asus X99-A motherbaord and two GTX 980s.

I CANNOT get SLI to work, I dont even have the option to enable SLI in the Nvidia control panel. Both 980s show in GPUZ, and in the device manager, and even in Unigine Heaven it reports the temps of both cards, but I cant enable SLI. The only thing I havent tried is moving the cards around in the PCI express slots because they are watercooled.

When you google " no nvidia sli option " or " cannot enable SLI " or " SLI not working " I have tried everything from those search results. except swapping the cards around.

Id really rather not drain the loop and swap the cards around if I dont have to.

The only thing I was thinking that might have something to do with it would be a combination of the graphics cards location, in the top two slots, one is clearly wired for x16 and the second one is wired x8, but the 3rd slot is wired for x16. I went with the top to slots because I have a single slot spacing SLI tube extension fitting thing.

Could the slots they are in and a combination of the USB 3 header and the sata port im using have anything to do with it? I have literally tried everything, kinda out of options. Reaching out to you guys before It drain the loop and try swapping the cards around.

Thanks

Do you have an SLI bridge? Sorry if that's a stupid question, I didn't see a mention of it in the OP (unless I missed it).

No clue then... maybe it is that x8 slot then. If I were you I'd drain the loop and switch the cards around first if no one else can come up with a solution in the next hour.

Looking at the manual, that slot does not support graphics cards. And this from Anandtech:
"There is an additional PCIe 2.0 x4 slot from the PCH in the middle of the main PCIe slots for Thunderbolt or additional cards. This is situated as to not interfere with dual slot PCIe configurations."
